About The Position

The City of Alabaster is seeking a skilled and dependable Maintenance Mechanic to join our Public Works team. This position is responsible for performing preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and corrective repairs on a wide variety of City-owned vehicles, equipment, and machinery. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to keeping essential public service equipment operating safely and efficiently.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED required
Valid driver’s license required

Nice To Haves

Experience in automotive, diesel, heavy equipment, or industrial equipment repair preferred
Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and welding systems preferred
CDL preferred or ability to obtain within designated timeframe

Responsibilities

Diagnose, maintain, and repair mechanical and electrical systems on City equipment and vehicles
Perform preventative maintenance and corrective repairs on engines, motors, generators, and related equipment
Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems efficiently and accurately
Dismantle, repair, and reassemble electric motors and components
Re-wire electrical panels and replace defective parts as needed
Perform welding and fabrication tasks associated with equipment repairs
Diagnose and repair gas and diesel-powered vehicles and equipment, including: Cars and trucks, Tractors and mowers, Heavy construction equipment, Other City-owned vehicles and machinery
Order and maintain inventory of necessary parts, materials, and tools
Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records
Ensure equipment is operating safely and in compliance with applicable standards
