About The Position

This role involves performing complex repair procedures on equipment within a chemical plant, following specific instructions. The Maintenance Mechanic I will collaborate with the maintenance manager and plant engineers to improve equipment reliability and develop repair procedures. They will also work with current technicians to enhance electrical skills. The position requires working from heights, understanding chemical hazards and associated PPE, and interpreting technical drawings. The mechanic will work in both plant and shop environments, support capital projects by optimizing equipment selection and layout for maintainability, and promote standardization by providing technical expertise for new or modified equipment. Participation in PSM activities, continuing education, and industry conferences is expected. The role also includes understanding material identification codes, plant auxiliary equipment (fire protection, boilers, air compressors, waste handling, emission control), bulk tank systems, and waste handling systems. The mechanic will support internal customers by troubleshooting problems to minimize downtime and maintain equipment records for service history. Adherence to all company quality, safety, security, health, and environmental policies, as well as Tremco's specific procedures, is mandatory. The role involves working with outside contractors and requires the ability to lift and carry 50 pounds, bend, squat, reach, climb stairs and ladders, wear a respirator, work in confined spaces, work from heights with fall protection, and calibrate 4-20mA transmitters. Knowledge of meters, calibration tools, troubleshooting motors and motor controls, and the NEC is also required.

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent
1 or more years of experience in Manufacturing mechanical field or AS degree from Technical School.
Experienced in installation, maintenance, troubleshooting plant issues.
Good analytical skills and attention to detail with ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and manuals.
Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Basic safety training such as Right to Know, Hazmat, Hazwoper.

Responsibilities

Understand and perform complex repair procedures within Chemical Plant while following oral and written instruction specific to the equipment being repaired.
Work closely with the maintenance manager and plant engineers to enhance equipment reliability and develop equipment repair procedures.
Work with current maintenance technicians to strengthen skills in the areas of electrical.
Work from ladders, scaffolds, catwalks, or high lifts.
Develop a full understanding of chemical hazards specific to area assigned to, including knowledge of required PPE for each job.
Read and interpret blueprints, layouts, drawings, and/or specifications.
Work in plant, and shop environment.
Support capital projects by participating and reviewing equipment selection and layout to optimize maintainability and meet reliability goals.
Promote consistency by inputting on standardizing equipment, providing technical expertise for installation, check out, maintenance procedures and start-up of all new or modified critical equipment.
Participate in PSM activities as defined by site manuals and practices.
Participate in continuing education and industry conferences to improve competencies and keep current and evaluate new technologies for their applicability.
Develop a full understanding of material identification code system, including hazard identification numbering for repair jobs that require clearing of equipment in such service.
Develop a basic understanding of the function of plant auxiliary equipment, including the fire protection system, boiler, heaters, air compressor, waste handling and emission control devices. This includes specific tests or preventive maintenance procedures required for all equipment.
Develop a basic understanding of bulk tank systems. This includes a numbering system and location tank tables, level measuring systems and transfer pumps for repairing such systems.
Develop a full understanding of the plant waste handling systems. This includes sumps operation, holding tanks, separation, and transfer equipment for repairing such systems.
Work with internal customers to provide support for small projects; troubleshoot problems using operational procedures and products to eliminate downtime.
Help to maintain records on equipment to build history to track equipment service and replacement requirements.
Adhere to all company quality, safety, security, health and environmental requirements and policies.
Work with outside contractor.
Perform all work according to Tremco quality and safety procedures.
Able to lift and carry 50 pounds.
Ability to bend, squat down, and reach above your head, throughout the day.
Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
Ability to wear a respirator and work in confined spaces.
Ability to work from heights and wear fall protection.
Knowledge of calibrating different types of 4-20mA transmitters.
Knowledge of meters and calibration tools.
Knowledge of troubleshooting Motors and Motor Controls.
Knowledge of NEC.
