About The Position

Carpenter Co. has an immediate opening for a 1st shift Maintenance Mechanic/Electrician at our Piedmont, SC manufacturing plant. This position is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, or replacing, mechanical equipment or mechanical, electrical, and electro-mechanical devices and components; and fabricate any mechanical devices or item requiring shop skills or tools as requested. Carpenter Co. employees are committed to working hard to ensure production goals are met while maintaining operations excellence. As the Maintenance Mechanic/Electrician, you will be expected to be in constant communication with department managers and employees to coordinate mechanical and electrical repairs. Major challenges include working independently on very involved and complex jobs. Works in a normal production/maintenance environment with exposure to temperature changes and some unpleasant working conditions.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED, plus 2 or more years' specialty or technical training.
  • 3+ years' experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Good communication and advance math skills.
  • Must be forklift certified.
  • Ability to read and interpret a tape measure.
  • Must possess a variety of personally owned industrial hand tools.
  • Good attendance and be able to work overtime as required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic plumbing and electrical repair on machinery and/or equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on equipment.
  • Assemble and disassemble equipment.
  • Weld and use a cutting torch, plasma cutter, cut-off saw, and machine-shop equipment.
  • Report conditions encountered that may affect the operation of the equipment.
  • Train Class "B" Mechanics and/or mechanic helpers.
  • Fabricate any mechanical assembly, install and make operational.
  • Ready equipment for shipment to other locations.
  • Read and interpret machine diagrams and plant layout drawings.
  • Recognize potential mechanical problems, plan a solution for repair, and implement the plan.
  • Calibrate all in-plant electrical equipment.
  • Maintain plant fire system.
  • Maintain lighting inside and outside of the building.
  • Run conduit and/or initiated new electrical circuits.
  • Serve on plant emergency response team.
  • Travel to other Carpenter Co. locations when needed.
  • Drive forklift, scissor lift and genie boom as needed.
