Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent GED.
  • Requires rounded training and experience usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.
  • Familiarity with basic mathematical functions is required.
  • Ability to work a schedule of 8 days on and 6 days off.
  • Good working knowledge of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional, courteous manner in diversified situations.
  • Mature judgment and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to pass a pre-hire background and drug screen.
  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain the required intelligence community level clearance.
  • Valid state driver’s license with acceptable driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Trade certifications in mechanical, electrical, plumbing and/or carpentry.
  • Competency in Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Responsibilities

  • Repairs machinery or mechanical equipment.
  • Examines machines and mechanical equipment to diagnose source of trouble.
  • Dismantles or partly dismantles machines and performs repairs that mainly involve the use of hand tools in scraping and fitting parts.
  • Replaces broken or defective parts with items obtained from stock.
  • Orders the production of a replacement part by a machine shop or sending the machine to a machine shop for major repairs.
  • Prepares written specifications for major repairs or for the production of parts ordered from machine shops.
  • Reassembles machines and makes all necessary adjustments for operation.
  • Performs Carpenter duties to include, but not limited to, framing and finish work, painting, staining, etc.
  • Performs the design, construction, installation, and repair of wooden fixtures such as cabinets, furniture, shelving, doors, plaques, and other custom wood products.
  • Uses a variety of hand tools, portable power tools, and standard measuring instruments.
  • Respond to emergency site maintenance as required.
  • Inspect and diagnose problems to determine corrective repairs.
  • Perform on call and preventive maintenance duties as necessary.
  • Supports and assists other department staff and trade groups as needed or directed.
  • Adheres to the established Chugach safety, personnel policies, and standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
