About The Position

The Maintenance Mechanic 3 (MM3) is within the Museum Support Services Division and Leads the Facilities Services Department. This department is a vital component to the success of the organization. Facilities Services is responsible for maintaining building systems such as environmental controls, utilities, plumbing and mechanical systems and the automation systems that execute operations. Without this management the society wouldn’t be able to function at an accredited levels for a Cultural Property. The MM3 will lead the Facilities’ Services Department providing maintenance support and HVAC & Automation System support. The work is performed inside and outside in a variety of seasonal conditions. The MM3 works with complicated HVAC, power, and water systems, power tools, lifts, and sharp instruments that require PPE and hazard awareness.

Requirements

  • Six (6) years of HVAC, refrigeration mechanic and installer, or closely relevant field such as building and equipment maintenance, construction or repair work that includes two (2) years of HVAC experience.
  • HVAC certificate from accredited technical or trade school AND Three (3) years of HVAC and/or refrigeration maintenance
  • Associate’s degree in HVAC AND Two (2) years of HVAC and/or refrigeration maintenance
  • HS Diploma/GED equivalent AND Completion of a recognized apprenticeship in heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration mechanics and installers, steamfitter, or other relevant skilled mechanic trade, and one year of experience as a journey level worker in heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration mechanics and installers, or equivalent relevant journey level experience in building and equipment maintenance, construction or repair work
  • Knowledge of standard practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment of the HVAC trades; operation and theory of steam generation equipment, fluid and gas systems; laws, rules or regulations that pertain to pressure vessels
  • Able to lead other staff effectively

Responsibilities

  • Plans, coordinate, assign tasks, and perform the work to ensure project completion for building operational systems and facility appearance
  • Performs skilled and unskilled maintenance tasks associated with installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical, electrical, plumbing systems and associated components
  • Consults with appropriate resources to plan, estimate, and execute projects; requisitions materials, equipment, and supplies for work tasks
  • Maintains preventative maintenance plans for all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems
  • Directs the work tasks of Maintenance Mechanic 2
  • Monitors, analyzes, adjusts, maintains, and troubleshoots HVAC climate controls systems, and does minor repairs if needed
  • Oversees scheduled contractor maintenance service projects related to refrigeration, steam distribution systems, commercial air-conditioning (environmental) equipment; air handling units; and pneumatic/electronic/electrical or mechanical control systems
