About The Position

The Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) is accepting applications for a Maintenance Mechanic 1 to serve as a general repair worker when an immediate journey-level tradesperson is unavailable, independently performing routine maintenance assignments or under the technical direction of a journey level position. The opportunity is at Echo Glen Children’s Center, where the role involves performing a variety of semi-skilled sub-journey work in the maintenance, repair, remodeling, alterations, and construction of buildings, grounds, facilities, and equipment.

Requirements

  • Two years of general work experience in building and equipment maintenance, construction, or repair work.
  • The ability to take action to learn and grow.
  • The ability to take action to meet the needs of others.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in mechanical trades; safety precautions.
  • Ability to work from verbal descriptions, blueprints, construction drawings, plans, and sketches; estimate materials and time needed to complete the assigned job.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with management, peers, clients, and the public as required to carry out the assigned duties of the position.

Responsibilities

  • Perform minor repairs on building fixtures, plumbing, heating, laundry, kitchen equipment, motors, and electrical appliances.
  • Perform semi-skilled work in carpentry, plumbing, steam fitting, electrical, mechanical and machinist work.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, and other shop equipment as needed.
  • Operate mowers and ground equipment.
  • May assist in the fabrication of equipment and materials constructed in trade shops in accordance with project requirements.
