About The Position

This is a Full-Time, Permanent role at the Washington Veterans Home. The position involves performing general maintenance and repair to keep the facility safe, beautiful, and enjoyable for Veteran residents. The role includes mechanical and facility repairs, grounds maintenance (lawn care, landscaping, watering), carpentry, and plumbing work. The work environment is inspiring, and the mission is "Serving Those Who Served." The position is eligible for a "Supplement Basic Shift Premium" for 24/7 Facilities, providing an additional one dollar ($1.00) per hour for direct care facility employees, expiring June 29, 2027. Requirements

High school diploma or GED equivalent.
2 years of general work experience in building and equipment maintenance, construction or repair work, or equivalent education/experience.
A combination of education and experience may be considered on a year-for-year basis.
Experience must be relevant to the position.
Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
Must be proficient in the English language.

Must be able to pass a DSHS BCCU Background Check prior to beginning services and every two (2) years.
Must be able to perform moderately heavy physical effort for some tasks such as moving furniture, equipment, etc.
Incumbent must be able to lift up to 60 lbs. and may push/pull/carry objects weighing over 60 lbs.
Must be able to perform physically demanding work with continuous standing and walking; frequent lifting, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, twisting, and bending; repetitive motion of hands and arms and gripping with hands.
Must comply with annual Tuberculin Screening.
Requires medical evaluation, fit testing, training, and use of respiratory protection as required by the Washington Industrial Safety and Act standards.
Must be able to wear a respirator, medical gloves, gowns, eye protection, and other personal protection as required by a job or task.
Must successfully complete, within mandated timeframes, employee orientation and all other mandatory annual, in-service, and other required training.
Must become familiar and comply with all DVA policies and procedures and Collective Bargaining Agreements as applicable.
Must sign the confidentiality statement for all employees.
Must maintain regular and reliable attendance, successfully complete employee orientation and other required training.
Candidates who are offered a job with WDVA must possess work authorization which does not require sponsorship by the employer for a visa now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

Working knowledge of skills in fields such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, welding, painting, and machinist work is preferred.
Experience troubleshooting electrical and electronic equipment, including low-voltage systems, controls, wiring, switches, motors, sensors, and related components.
Experience with 3D printers, CAD or modeling software, additive manufacturing, or fabrication of custom parts and repair solutions is highly desirable.
Demonstrated interest and ability in using new technology to diagnose problems, fabricate components, and improve facility maintenance operations.
Ability to use appropriate tools.
Ability to diagnose and repair structures to maintain usability.
Ability to read commercial blueprints and apply building codes through the full range of commercial and industrial maintenance and construction work.

Responsibilities

Perform maintenance, operation, and repair of electrical, mechanical and structural systems of buildings and utility distribution.
Operate hand tools, power tools, lawn mowers, and other equipment as needed.
Perform minor repairs on building fixtures, plumbing, heating, laundry, and kitchen equipment, motors, and electrical appliances.
Operate automotive equipment to transport materials and supplies.
Mow, irrigate, fertilize, and maintain lawns.
Use a variety of manual tools and equipment such as weed trimmers, backpack blowers, light tractors, and lawn mowers.
Plant, transplant, trim, and water plants, trees, flowers, and shrubs.
Other duties as assigned by the Plant Manager and Maintenance Mechanic 2 and 3.
Move furniture and equipment for various departments and physical plant shops.
Assist with phones, TVs, medical equipment, or other electronics as needed.
