About The Position

This person plays a vital role in ensuring smooth, efficient operations and striving for operational excellence. He or she will lead and direct a maintenance team in a fast-paced environment to ensure that all equipment is operational and running to deliver needed product for sales’ needs. He or she will be responsible for developing short- and long-term strategies around preventive, reactive and running maintenance programs. He or she will collaborate positively with production, sanitation, quality, continuous improvement and other stakeholders to ensure operational success for the plant and minimized downtime. This leader will ensure team members embrace a positive collaborative environment throughout the facility to meet production goals. As much as technical aspects of the position, he or she will be responsible for leading, coaching, training and developing a high-performance maintenance team. He or she will hold supervisors and employees accountable in all aspects of their roles including maintenance, positive culture, safety, quality, operational and financial metrics.

Requirements

  • Excellent leader with strong critical thinking, analytical skills, judgement, quantitative reasoning and decision-making.
  • Bachelor's degree in production engineering, product engineering, manufacturing engineering.
  • Five years of leadership experience in the food industry within industrial/manufacturing processes and equipment repair.
  • Excellent communication skills via participation in various meetings, production of reports and presentations.
  • Knowledge of various software platforms such as MaintainX, Microsoft Office, etc.;
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing machinery, understanding of automation systems, and familiarity with maintenance management software.
  • Ability to analyze complex technical problems, develop solutions, and implement changes effectively.
  • Comprehensive understanding of safety regulations and practices related to maintenance and manufacturing.
  • Skills in managing projects, timelines, and resources effectively, often required in maintenance and engineering roles.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees, clients, customers, vendors, and the general public.

  • Lead and manage a team of maintenance technicians. Ensure proper staffing levels, assign tasks, provide guidance, ensure that all team members are well-trained and adhere to safety standards and company protocol. Promote safety and ethical standards.
  • Grow team skills to meet changing demands. Mentor individual growth of each supervisor and technician on the team. Monitor employee performance, provide feedback, conduct performance evaluations, and set individual and team goals. Provide constructive feedback to team members and recognize their accomplishments to enhance morale and motivation.
  • Address and mediate conflicts or issues that arise among team members, fostering a cooperative team dynamic.
  • Develop and implement maintenance strategies to ensure equipment reliability and availability. This includes routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and quick responses to equipment failure. Lead the Maintenance function in providing both a reactive and pro-active, multi-skilled maintenance service on all operational equipment and facilities infrastructure. Responsible for all planning, oversight, monitoring and auditing of timely maintenance requirements.
  • Contribute to the creation and implementation of best practice maintenance vision, strategy, policies, processes and procedures to aid and improve operational performance.
  • Increase the site operational effectiveness, improve on project delivery, mean time between failure and downtime reduction, and manage and implement maintenance improvement plans, driving Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s).
  • Optimize equipment according to OEM standard procedure, enhancing performance and product quality.
  • Analyze maintenance processes and work to improve efficiency and effectiveness, through the implementation of new technologies or methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, 5S, Predictive Maintenance, root cause analysis, risk mitigation and proactive problem resolution.
  • Create and manage the maintenance budget. This includes forecasting cost of repairs, spare parts, maintenance programs, capital expenditures and specific project budgets.
  • Establish standard policies and procedures and managing the team on these technical best practices.
  • Work as part of the management team to share ideas and improve operations, recommending, supporting and implementing continuous improvement activities and process and procedure improvements to optimize results and improve quality of delivery, in line with quality standards. Ensure employee training and engagement in this area.
  • Oversee and ensure that necessary spare parts and inventory items are available and properly organized to support maintenance and repair activities efficiently. Related activities include: maintain accurate records to prevent shortages and overstocks, source and purchase right parts and materials, forecast demand, organize and secure storage, quality control of parts, cost management, recordkeeping, preventative maintenance support.
  • Ensure and maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, equipment performance, and any relevant data to help inform decision-making and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Mange the process of the introduction of new machinery, plant and equipment from making the business case, to procurement to installation and effective go-live with new equipment.
  • Oversee contractor management processes, including selection, onboarding, compliance, performance monitoring, and safety assurance to ensure alignment with company standards and project goals.
  • Identify training needs for the maintenance team and ensure execution to enhance team skills and capabilities.
