Maintenance - Production-Exempt (Culpeper VA)
About The Position
At Bell Nursery, the Maintenance Manager will manage the overall maintenance department within a facility. This includes the management and oversight of Maintenance Technicians, coordination of all planned maintenance for a facility, and serving as the chief advocate for safety initiatives. Safety encompasses all facility equipment and processes to preserve the health, safety, and welfare of employees within the respective site. The role will also contribute to the overall maintenance, repair, upgrades, and improvements of a facility. This position directs the activities of Maintenance Technicians who report directly to this role, but also performs regular maintenance and repairs of the greenhouse structure, production equipment, plumbing-PVC, and general housekeeping of the building. This is a hands-on role requiring basic knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, with a focus on irrigation systems, greenhouse maintenance, and the installation and repair of production equipment.
Requirements
- Advanced technical degree/certification or equivalent work experience
- General, if not better than average knowledge of power equipment, electric, and plumbing
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to perform under minimal supervision and exercise independent judgment in problem solving
- Works well in both a team environment and independently
- Knowledge and proven experience with OSHA requirements/standards for a production facility
- OSHA non-negotiable training certification or ability to obtain within the first 3 months of employment
- 10-Hour OSHA certification training or the ability to obtain within the first 6 months of employment
- Adjusts to changing conditions and willingness to work off-shifts
- Available for On Call Emergencies
- Experience with Microsoft Office product suite and Outlook email
- General management, scheduling and organizational skills

Responsibilities
- Repairs mechanical equipment and machinery used in greenhouse operations
- Perform preventative and scheduled maintenance on plant equipment
- Ensuring functionality and reliability of all mechanical systems
- Install and maintain new equipment
- Troubleshoot mechanical and/or electrical issues
- Assist/organize repairs as needed under the direction of the General Manager or Assistant General Manager
