About The Position

TemperPack is a rapidly growing company based in Richmond, Virginia, specializing in innovative, sustainable packaging components for cold-chain shipping of food and pharmaceutical products. The company aims to provide packaging solutions that customers and end-consumers feel great about using, replacing non-sustainable materials like Styrofoam coolers. The Maintenance Manager will lead and develop the maintenance organization, ensuring reliability, uptime, and safety of all production and facility assets. This role involves driving preventative maintenance programs, managing the maintenance budget and KPI performance, overseeing capital and improvement projects, and collaborating with Engineering on new equipment installations and process improvements. The manager will supervise mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation (E&I) activities, directly leading Maintenance Supervisors and E&I technicians. The position requires strong project management experience, working knowledge of controls and PLC troubleshooting, and a leadership style that combines strategic accountability with daily floor presence.

Requirements

  • Strong leadership capability with experience managing maintenance teams in a manufacturing environment
  • Working knowledge of PLC ladder logic and ability to support basic controls troubleshooting
  • Solid understanding of industrial electrical systems, motor controls, drives, and instrumentation
  • Strong mechanical aptitude including pumps, gearboxes, alignment, and rotating equipment
  • Experience with CMMS systems, preferably Asset Essentials or similar platforms
  • Strong project management skills with ability to manage multiple priorities and timelines
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards including LOTO, confined space, and electrical safety
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on root cause and long-term solutions
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments while holding teams accountable
  • 5+ years of maintenance leadership experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Proven experience managing capital or improvement projects
  • Experience leading preventative maintenance programs and spare parts systems
  • Hands-on experience with industrial controls and PLC systems
  • High School Diploma or GED required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with extrusion, lamination, or similar continuous process manufacturing preferred
  • Technical or Vocational training preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, or related field preferred
  • Relevant certifications a plus: CMRP (Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional), electrical license, or equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop, and hold accountable the site maintenance team, including supervisors and a team of technicians and E&I personnel
  • Own overall equipment reliability and uptime across all production systems (extrusion, lamination, converting, and support equipment)
  • Drive execution and continuous improvement of the Preventative Maintenance program using Asset Essentials
  • Manage and optimize spare parts inventory, including min/max levels, critical component availability, and cost control
  • Partner with Engineering on capital projects, equipment installations, upgrades, and process improvements
  • Lead project management efforts including planning, execution, timelines, and cross-functional coordination
  • Spend significant time on the floor daily, directly supporting troubleshooting, team development, and operational response
  • Ensure all maintenance activities are performed safely and in compliance with OSHA and company standards (LOTO, electrical safety, etc.)
  • Establish and maintain maintenance KPIs including PM completion rate, OEE, MTTR, MTBF, and downtime; drive accountability to targets
  • Oversee troubleshooting and repair of mechanical, electrical, and control systems including motors, drives, PLCs, and instrumentation
  • Support root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to eliminate recurring failures
  • Develop and maintain SOPs for maintenance processes, equipment, and systems
  • Ensure accurate documentation of maintenance activities, machine logs, and equipment history
  • Coordinate contractor support and manage external vendors as needed
  • Own the site maintenance budget, including labor, parts, contractors, and capital spend; report regularly on budget performance
  • Maintain strong cross-functional relationships with Operations, Quality, and Engineering
