About The Position

Maintenance employees are expected to perform all preventative maintenance and maintenance-related functions associated with a boat building yard. This includes, but is not limited to repairing, maintaining, installing and fabricating various facility and production systems and equipment. Maintenance employees are expected to prepare, plan and implement preventative maintenance schedules for all production and yard equipment so as to keep equipment operating properly and continuously. They must have experience in mechanical, electrical, electronic, plumbing, hydraulics, HVAC, structural and other facilities and production related maintenance projects. They must be able to work independently from prints, manuals, sketches, etc. They must be capable of troubleshooting all types of facility and production system problems. Employees should expect that based on the ability of the person involved, they may move up a level or stay at the current level for longer periods than others working around them. In extremely rare cases, some may remain at their current skill level indefinitely. Although this would not be the Company’s goal, and likely not the goal of most employees, management does recognize that certain individuals are either unable or unwilling to learn the skills required to attain a higher level. Some employees may learn and adapt more quickly than others. Requirements

  • Must be able to work with all types of wiring, piping, air and fluid lines, machinery, machine tools, etc.
  • Must be able to use test equipment, such as voltmeters, ammeters, power supplies, etc.
  • Must be able to use hand and power tools and operate motor vehicles, forklifts and other lifting aids.
  • Each person must directly supply their own hand tools per the attached tool list and must have them available in the yard and in working order throughout their employment period.
  • Read and write in English
  • Use decimal or fractional tape measure
  • Physical strength to perform work standing, bending, squatting, kneeling and climbing
  • Work with hands and arms overhead for extended periods
  • Possess willingness and ability to learn new jobs and take instructions
  • Be flexible and willing to work various shift schedules as required
  • All skill level 1 qualifications and requirements
  • Possess a background consistent with requirements for skill level 2
  • All skill level 1 and 2 qualifications and requirements
  • Possess a background consistent with requirements for skill level 3

Responsibilities

  • Develop proficiency in reading blueprints
  • Perform basic layout work
  • Fabricate and weld metal products as are necessary to meet the needs of the situation
  • Assist other maintenance personnel as needs dictate
  • Observe and comply will all safety policies, specifically lock out/tag out and safe electric work
  • Replace or repair tools, equipment and parts using hand tools, power tools, lifting aids, etc.
  • Operate forklift and other powered equipment
  • Work with outside contractors on projects as necessary
  • Maintain air compressor system by eliminating and repairing all leaks and cleaning intake filters
  • Perform routine maintenance on building and fixtures throughout the yard when specified
  • Work irregular or unusual hours in emergency situations
  • Perform advanced layout work
  • Maintain and repair various facility and production systems and equipment
  • Develop and implement written preventative maintenance programs
  • Work from drawings, maintenance manuals, codes, sketches and specifications
  • Install, adjust, level and align various facility and production systems and equipment
  • Install electrical control and timing devices, lighting systems, etc.
  • Make emergency repairs when necessary to offset excessive downtime and production
  • Perform assigned start-up and shut-down functions in the plant and facilities as necessary
  • Perform security checks, boiler checks, etc. during non-working periods
  • Safely handle and transport materials, parts, supplies, etc. throughout the yard
  • Identify operating irregularities and machine malfunctions and notify supervision
  • Work from general assignment and complete tasks with little or no direction from others
  • Utilize typical house building skills to build or renovate office structures
  • Maintain and ensure required quality by regular self inspection and asking for critique from more experienced co-workers and supervisors
  • Produce work that is accurate, of the required quality with the proper appearance and within a reasonable and acceptable time period
  • Demonstrate ability to follow instructions and policies that can be given either orally or in written form
  • Perform extensive layout work
  • Demonstrate consistency and proficiency in all trade related knowledge and experience
  • Possess ability and willingness to successfully train at least one level 1 and/or level 2 employee and may from time to time be required to direct at least two other employees while still accomplishing own work on schedule
