About The Position

Unique Industries is seeking an experienced Maintenance Lead to work in the Blairs Distribution Center, 3rd shift. The Maintenance Lead is responsible for assisting the Maintenance Manager and Senior Maintenance Manager within the maintenance group in the repair of existing equipment, installation of new equipment, and maintenance of buildings and grounds for Unique Industries, Inc., Blairs, Virginia.

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate with management, colleagues, line staff, and individuals outside the company to meet departmental goals.
  • Ability to report departmental shift needs to Maintenance Manager and assists in developing short- and long-term strategic plans to address those needs.
  • Electrical and mechanical skills to maintain warehouse systems.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to present ideas and/or facts and recommendations effectively.
  • Ability to read and understand equipment manuals, drawings, and associated documents to maintain efficient standards.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, VOSHA, and local codes pertaining to general safety and maintenance of grounds, buildings, and associated equipment used.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Ability to Lead Shift Maintenance during repairs, troubleshooting, and installation of equipment.
  • H/S diploma or GED is a requirement.
  • Two-year Technical or associate’s degree accepted.
  • Five to seven years’ experience in a distribution/manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of Conveyor systems, PLCs, Pneumatics, and Hydraulics required.
  • Working knowledge of RS Logis/Studio 5000. Or similar PLC Software.
  • Leadership experience of no less than 3-years required.
  • Valid State Driver’s License required.

Nice To Haves

  • Electrical Journeyman preferred
  • 8+ years as an industrial Mechanic and/or electrician preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for maintenance functions during assigned shifts as lead at the Blairs VA facilities, including Building, Grounds, and operational support equipment.
  • Help with shutdown planning for assigned shifts, monitor all Preventative Maintenance for maintenance associates on shift, and help with training /development of assigned maintenance associates.
  • Supervises and motivates assigned associates regarding safety, quality, productivity, training, and GMP.
  • Facilitates methodical troubleshooting approaches utilizing the 5 Why, Root Cause Analysis, and Formal Failure Analysis for the assigned shift and personnel.
  • Helps Manager develop, execute, and revise departmental SOPs to enhance quality, quantity, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
  • Interacts with all areas of the department to understand issues and assess needs to improve consistency and integrity of processes.
  • Assists the Maintenance Manager in supervising the departmental workforce daily, including providing direction, setting deadlines, and resolving problems.
  • Reports issues with machine/equipment during shifts promptly to the maintenance manager.
  • Ensures all machine/equipment issues are properly repaired during shift and reported to the Maintenance Manager in a timely manner.
  • Communicates to the Manager and Maintenance Administrative Assistant any parts that need to be stocked for machinery/equipment or are currently out of stock.
  • Helps monitor associate breaks and lunches; reports any issues to the Maintenance Manager.
  • Strives to build knowledge and skills with maintenance techs continuously.
  • Stays current with developments within the Maintenance Department and shares expertise with others.
  • Assists the Sr. Maintenance Manager with holding team members accountable for following applicable Federal and State requirements and company policies and procedures.
  • Always exhibits professional manners when dealing with others!
  • Maintains a clean and safe workplace.
  • Mandates that company supplied uniforms are being worn by the maintenance teams.
  • Constantly works to maintain constructive working relationships.
  • A commitment to companywide quality and safety is required.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
