About The Position

Under supervision, this position works for the Maintenance Department in San Diego, CA during the summer months. The selected individual will have the opportunity to work at a manufacturing facility and directly with the facility’s leadership team supporting our Delimex operation. This role involves constant assistance in the continuous analysis and improvement of processes and system capabilities, exploring aspects of Manufacturing such as Maintenance & Reliability, and Capital Projects. The intern will support improvement projects focused on safety, quality, costs, and productivity.

Requirements

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suites (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) required.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret company procedures/policies, general business.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees and the general public.
  • Ability to effectively communicate written and verbal.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Professional attitude and behavior.
  • Conduct data analysis using MS Excel Spreadsheets.
  • Coursework, background, and experiences in area of Engineering, Continuous improvement, lean manufacturing Courses, and business-related classes.
  • EU Working Permit (Orientation Year Visa not included).

Nice To Haves

  • You are at the end of your bachelor, or in your master’s degree: Engineering / Electricity / Pneumatic / General Maintenance.
  • Ability to read, write and speak both English and Spanish is preferred.
  • Preferred knowledge of lean manufacturing tools.
  • Fluent in English and Spanish.
  • Preferred Yellow belt, green belt certification.

Responsibilities

  • Complete gap analysis of utility asset list for steam, chillers, refrigeration gases, cooling towers, and compressed air.
  • Support operational needs for mandatory quality and safety documentation and paperwork for department operations.
  • Troubleshoot equipment performance issues in accordance with maintenance job classification.
  • Maintain and improve the integrity and performance of all focus line/s equipment.
  • Complete scheduled work orders.
  • Communicate with Maintenance and Production Leadership any maintenance activities required on assigned equipment to ensure optimum line efficiency and product quality.
  • Utilizing Maintenance Windows/Scheduled downtime; perform preventive maintenance inspections and corrective work orders on all focus line equipment as assigned by the Maintenance Department to prevent mechanical and/or electrical breakdowns.
  • Participate in the development and improvement of a documented 52-week maintenance plan as prescribed in the Playbook and residing in the SAP PM structure.
  • Support on implementing improvements using the Breakdown Management process to prevent reoccurring equipment failures.
  • Kraft Heinz Management System implementation focus on Maintenance, Reliability and Engineering, Utilities and Good Operational Practices.
  • Updates of Key Performance Indicators files assigned.
  • Use Lean manufacturing tools to implement assigned projects during the internship.
  • Always ensure a safe and sanitary work environment while following established safety regulations in the performance of all job tasks and reporting any unsafe conditions immediately.

  • Interprets and takes ownership of GMPs and food safety company standards.
  • Participate in the QRMP yearly audit and assist in the development of procedures and corrective actions as needed.
