About The Position

This is a journey-level position that performs skilled work using standardized practices in one or more of the following trades: electrical, electronic, carpentry, HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning), plumbing, and locksmithing. The Maintenance II works with considerable independence following standard practices, ensuring that preventive maintenance is performed and that urgent repairs are corrected. Employees in this position may be required to perform portions or all of the duties normally falling under positions within or below this classification depending on current workload and staffing requirements. Other duties may be assigned as required.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Completion of a trades apprenticeship program leading to the equivalent of a Journey card or license in the area of electrical, electronic, carpentry, HVAC, or plumbing; or any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Two years of general experience in building maintenance, construction, or an additional trade.
• A valid Washington State driver's license and acceptable driving record.
• Ability to obtain and maintain First Aid, CPR, and Defensive Driving certifications.
• Ability to pass Sheriff's background clearance prior to employment as required for work performed in the Jail facility.
• Must be willing to sign Grays Harbor County Public Health and Social Services Confidentiality Agreement as required for work performed in that department.
• Must acquire EPA certification for HVAC refrigerant service within 90 days of employment.
• Must possess general computer skills necessary to prepare timecards, order supplies, research repair and maintenance issues, and use the County helpdesk ticket system.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in public access buildings is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Installs, repairs, and performs preventive maintenance on equipment and systems within County buildings.
• Uses complex diagnostic equipment in the detection of system/equipment failure or malfunction.
• Maintains records and work reports on all work performed.
• Requires operating and maintaining low pressure boilers, hot water equipment, emergency power equipment, and the cleaning and servicing of pumps, valves, etc.
• Assists in maintaining the emergency fire systems including fire extinguishers, alarms, and signs.
• Maintains yards and grounds by cutting, trimming, planting, spraying, and watering lawns, shrubs, flowers, and trees.
• Works as a part of a team in the design and implementation of remodel projects.
• Reads, understands, and utilizes complicated blueprints, schematics, and plans.
• Coordinates with architects, engineers, and outside contractors to complete assigned projects.
