About The Position

The Maintenance Technician I is responsible for performing light and heavy-duty maintenance tasks as directed. This role involves maintaining buildings and facilities, performing periodic and preventive maintenance on equipment (including HVAC systems), and repairing electrical and plumbing systems. The technician will also be responsible for maintaining tools and equipment, keeping work areas clean, and utilizing a work order system to log time and work performed. Adherence to safety standards and practices is crucial, as is the ability to troubleshoot and repair issues that could impact university property. The position also requires supporting the university's mission and values, coordinating with co-workers, and maintaining radio communication with management and staff.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in maintenance- or construction-related fields
  • Considerable knowledge of common practices, tools, equipment, and materials
  • Reliable vehicle for on-campus transportation
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to execute multiple tasks according to specifications
  • Strong professional integrity and ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Ability to use good judgment and think critically
  • Experience operating and maintaining equipment and hand-powered tools
  • Above-average knowledge of construction practices, electricity, and plumbing

Responsibilities

  • Maintains buildings and facilities
  • Performs periodic maintenance as directed
  • Maintains and repairs residential electrical and plumbing systems
  • Performs preventive maintenance on equipment, including HVAC systems
  • Maintains all tools and equipment
  • Maintains work uniform appearance
  • Keeps maintenance areas clean and organized
  • Uses work order system to log time and work performed
  • Adheres strictly to safety standards and practices
  • Utilizes all available skills to find, troubleshoot, and repair issues that would otherwise be detrimental to university-owned property
  • Supports the mission of the university and serves as an ambassador of the Q2 culture of service excellence
  • Models, supports and holds others accountable to the university’s values – integrity, dedication, excellence, creativity, and teamwork
  • Coordinates complex activities with co-workers
  • Communicates additional needs to management
  • Maintains radio communication with management and staff at all times
