About The Position

The Maintenance Helper is to perform basic tasks, minor repairs and preventative maintenance within the facility/warehouse. Under close supervision and guidance of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Helper assists other mechanics perform routine mechanical maintenance and repairs, cleans work area and equipment, holding materials or tools and furnishing materials.

Requirements

  • Requires a High School Diploma or general education degree (GED) with emphasis on mathematics; related vocational training classes; and/or relevant Technical/Trade School
  • Minimum 6 months of experience in warehouse maintenance and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience with conveyor system installation, preventative maintenance program implementation and or major repairs to related industrial equipment/automotive/farm equipment
  • Team player with good attitude and strong work ethic
  • Punctuality, must be dependable with excellent attendance
  • Must have excellent interpersonal/communication skills
  • Basic math skills, be familiar with and have a working knowledge of basic industrial material handling equipment
  • Ability to learn new trades
  • Possess a strong sense of urgency; ability and willingness to work tactfully under pressure, cope with stress
  • Promote and conduct good housekeeping practices
  • Ability to recognize safety hazards and take precautionary measures to protect self and others

Responsibilities

  • Assist in inspecting, repairing and maintaining material handling systems, such as conveyors and sortation equipment; completing minor preventive maintenance requirements on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines – with the goal of expanding hands-on knowledge and experience
  • Carries tools and equipment to and from working areas
  • Assist in locating sources of problems by observing mechanical devices
  • Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments; loosens bolts to dismantle machinery, oils and greases machines
  • Minor repairs and preventative maintenance (PM) of facility fixtures (e.g., roll-up dock door, dock lights, etc.)
  • Control downtime by informing users of routine preventative maintenance
  • Facility Cleanliness/Safety, assists in general housekeeping; keep building, warehouse areas clean, organized and recycle collected materials. Identify and act immediately regarding any safety hazards, spills, etc., to avoid the risk of accidents
  • Maintain equipment, parts, and supplies inventories
  • Must work safely at all times and comply with all safety policies and procedures
  • Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned as needed to support departmental goals and objectives to include performance of routine warehouse duties and responsibilities when appropriate
