About The Position

National Grid is hiring a Maintenance Foreperson (Planner) for their Northport, NY location. This role is responsible for scheduling and coordinating the Maintenance Department's work activities, prioritizing safety and efficient plant operations. The position involves utilizing the Maximo CMMS, coordinating parts with material management and vendors, and supervising contractor efforts for facility equipment and grounds repair. The role also includes integrating with the site's workforce of Mechanics, preparing work plans, assigning work, training personnel, and ensuring the quality and quantity of work performed. The Maintenance Foreperson will analyze causes of trouble, interpret plans and drawings, and make recommendations for equipment purchases and care. Cost control through planning, method development, and minimizing non-work time is essential. Proficiency in MAXIMO and P6 programs is required for effective manpower utilization. The role initiates requests for equipment outages, reviews work reports, enters maintenance history into MAXIMO, and prepares necessary reports. Extended hours may be required. The position facilitates the safe, reliable, and economic operation of generating facilities by implementing the PM program through Maximo, evaluating new equipment manuals for PM requirements, and reviewing equipment failure history to make recommendations for PM analysis. The role also administers the Company-Union Contract, local plant rules, and pertinent policies, and is responsible for training and developing workforce competencies.

Requirements

  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal agency regulations regarding safety, emissions, and environmental compliance.
  • Working knowledge of control, electrical, and/or mechanical equipment.
  • Knowledge in insulation and/or welding procedures.
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the operation and maintenance of power generation equipment.
  • Ability to effectively supervise others.
  • Capability of being certified as NYS Asbestos Handling Supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Scheduling and coordination of Maintenance Department work activities, prioritizing safety and efficient plant operations.
  • Utilizing the Maximo CMMS for work management.
  • Coordinating parts needed for maintenance with material management and outside vendors.
  • Supervising contractor efforts to repair on-site facility equipment and grounds.
  • Integrating with the supervision of the site work force of Mechanics in performing maintenance on grounds, buildings, equipment, and systems (mechanical, electrical, and/or controls).
  • Preparing work plans and assigning work; training and instructing personnel assigned.
  • Recommending special training needs and ensuring qualifications of assigned staff are kept current.
  • Maintaining quantity and quality of work through efficient assignment of personnel, recognition of factors slowing progress, and constant checking on job status.
  • Analyzing causes of trouble.
  • Reading and interpreting complicated and involved plans, drawings, and specifications.
  • Being familiar with the site and the use and care of tools, equipment, and material under supervision.
  • Making recommendations concerning purchases and care of equipment.
  • Controlling costs through proper planning, developing better methods and procedures, and minimizing non-work time and unavailability of tools, material, and parts.
  • Applying MAXIMO and P6 programs to assure maximum effective utilization of manpower.
  • Initiating requests for equipment outages.
  • Reviewing personnel work reports and entering maintenance history into MAXIMO and the Work Management KPI calculator.
  • Preparing necessary reports and forms.
  • Facilitating the safe, reliable, and economic operation of generating facilities by implementing the PM program through Maximo.
  • Evaluating new equipment manuals for PM requirements and adding those requirements to the MAXIMO PM module.
  • Reviewing equipment failure history and making recommendations to Management on equipment that might benefit from analysis to set up a PM.
  • Adding any eventual recommendations into the MAXIMO PM module.
  • Administering the Company-Union Contract, local plant rules, Rules of Safe Operation, and all pertinent policies and procedures.
