MAINTENANCE FIELD ENGINEER (CIVIL ENGINEER V)
About The Position
This position is accountable for planning, coordinating and controlling the maintenance activities in an assigned area of the district; managing the operating budget and manpower to guarantee optimal allocation; scheduling of resources, and overseeing right-of-way and road surface maintenance. The Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking to hire a Maintenance Field Engineer. Requirements
- Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois OR current registration as a Licensed Structural Engineer in the state of Illinois.
- Five years of experience in civil engineering.
- Supervisory experience.
- Requires a valid driver’s license.
- Requires successful completion of a background screening.
- Requires statewide travel and districtwide travel.
- Requires overtime.
- Requires 24-hour on-call to respond to emergency repair and maintenance.

Responsibilities
- Plans, organizes, directs and controls all normal and emergency maintenance activities within the assigned area to provide a safe and usable highway system.
- Investigates and meets with residents and officials regarding complaints, access permits and right-of-way problems.
- Inspects construction work performed under contract and by Day Labor to ensure projects reflect approved department standards periodically.
- Assigns, trains, motivates, evaluates and ensures the safety of subordinate personnel and provide technical guidance.
- Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules.
- Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
- Performs other duties as designed.
