About The Position

This position is accountable for planning, coordinating and controlling the maintenance activities in an assigned area of the district; managing the operating budget and manpower to guarantee optimal allocation; scheduling of resources, and overseeing right-of-way and road surface maintenance. The Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking to hire a Maintenance Field Engineer. Requirements

  • Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois OR current registration as a Licensed Structural Engineer in the state of Illinois.
  • Five years of experience in civil engineering.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license.
  • Requires successful completion of a background screening.
  • Requires statewide travel and districtwide travel.
  • Requires overtime.
  • Requires 24-hour on-call to respond to emergency repair and maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, directs and controls all normal and emergency maintenance activities within the assigned area to provide a safe and usable highway system.
  • Investigates and meets with residents and officials regarding complaints, access permits and right-of-way problems.
  • Inspects construction work performed under contract and by Day Labor to ensure projects reflect approved department standards periodically.
  • Assigns, trains, motivates, evaluates and ensures the safety of subordinate personnel and provide technical guidance.
  • Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules.
  • Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
  • Performs other duties as designed.
