Maintenance Engineer

Troy Design Manufacturing CompanyShelbyville, KY

About The Position

The Maintenance Engineer is a dual-focus role responsible for both the immediate technical health of the production floor and the long-term reliability of our manufacturing assets. This individual will split their time (approximately 50/50) between high-level "floor-side" troubleshooting of complex Die Cast and Machining systems and "office-side" strategic planning, data analysis, and project management. The ideal candidate will serve as the technical bridge between the maintenance technicians and the engineering management team.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of maintenance engineering experience in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field. Equivalent senior-level industrial experience may be considered.
  • Deep understanding of high-pressure hydraulics, furnace systems, and CNC machine geometry/spindle logic.
  • Experience with industrial robot integration and troubleshooting (e.g., part extraction, sprayers, and deburring cells).
  • Knowledge in CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) to track data and generate reliability reports.

Nice To Haves

  • Specific experience in Die Casting and/or high-precision Machining is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Advance troubleshooting: Act as the primary technical escalation point for complex failures in High-Pressure Die Casting (HPDC) machines, multi-axis CNC machining centers, and integrated robotic cells.
  • System Diagnostics: Perform advanced diagnostics on complex mechanical failures to include hydraulic/thermal and pneumatic circuits.
  • Mentorship: Provide hands-on guidance and technical training to maintenance technicians to elevate the team’s overall troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Emergency Response: Lead the recovery efforts during critical equipment breakdowns to minimize production impact.
  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Lead formal RCA processes for recurring or catastrophic failures, implementing engineering changes to prevent recurrence.
  • PM/PdM Optimization: Support the PM Planner by evaluating and refining Preventive Maintenance (PM) programs and develop Predictive Maintenance (PdM) strategies (e.g., vibration analysis, oil analysis, thermal monitoring).
  • Project Management: Manage projects, including equipment upgrades, new machine installations, and facility integrations.
  • Vendor Management: Interface with equipment OEMs and external contractors for specialized repairs and spare parts optimization.
