About The Position

The Maintenance Engineer ensures the safe, reliability, and efficient operation of all plant mechanical systems. This role supports design, maintenance, troubleshooting, and reliability improvements for production equipment. The engineer develops and manages preventive maintenance programs, ensures regulatory compliance, and provides technical support for 24/7 operations. Additional responsibilities include managing maintenance projects and budgets, conducting root cause analyses, and collaborating with operations and maintenance teams to improve plant performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience, including large outage planning and execution.
  • Must be able to support a 24/7 operation, including availability for on-call support.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; ability to learn new applications.
  • Strong understanding of computerized maintenance management systems (e.g., Maximo).
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge and aptitude.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to build relationships, recognize contributions, and maintain high standards of integrity.
  • Competencies: detail-oriented, problem-solving, organizational skills, and managerial courage.
  • Experience using production databases and software to document processes and plan maintenance/upgrade schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the plant’s equipment, including design, maintenance, and troubleshooting of equipment.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for mechanical reliability, predictive, and preventive maintenance.
  • Conduct routine inspections and audits of mechanical systems and equipment; troubleshoot issues; and develop preventative maintenance programs.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, codes, and regulatory requirements through inspections, risk assessments, and corrective actions.
  • Oversee installation, repairs, and upgrades of mechanical systems; manage related projects; and collaborate with maintenance and operations teams.
  • Assist in developing capital project programs, including budget management and cross-functional coordination to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Design, adapt, and implement improvements to plant systems to enhance reliability and performance.
  • Apply continuous improvement methodologies to drive process and system optimization.
  • Participate in Operations/BOD and Maintenance call teams as assigned.
  • Perform root cause failure analysis (RCFA) and implement corrective solutions, including process design modifications.
  • Manage and support mechanical systems within assigned process areas or mill-wide infrastructure, including specialized mill equipment when required.
  • Provide training to mill supervisors (train-the-trainer) on new or modified equipment.
  • Report directly to the Maintenance & Engineering Manager.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
