About The Position

The Maintenance Electronics Programmer – Sewing Automation Technician is responsible for supporting the setup, programming, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of automated and semi-automated sewing equipment used in garment manufacturing. This technical-level role combines hands-on electronics, servo and motion control, sensors, fixturing, and basic programming skills to help maintain reliable equipment operation, improve product quality, and support production efficiency. The position works closely with Maintenance, Engineering, and Production to implement machine settings, build and adjust fixtures, and assist with technical problem-solving on the production floor.

Requirements

  • Technical diploma, certificate, trade school training, or associate-level studies in Electronics, Mechatronics, Industrial Maintenance, Automation, Electrical Technology, or a related technical field required. Junior engineer preparation or partially completed engineering studies may be considered. Equivalent combination of technical education and hands-on experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of experience working with industrial equipment, electronic controls, automation systems, or manufacturing machinery required.
  • Basic programming skills related to machine controls, PLC interfaces, parameter setting, or simple scripting.
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, technical manuals, and basic mechanical drawings.
  • Hands-on ability to assemble, adjust, and troubleshoot fixtures and machine components.
  • Experience working with industrial servo motors, drives, and motion control systems, including basic tuning and parameter adjustment.
  • Familiarity with installing, configuring, and troubleshooting sensors, including photoelectric, proximity, limit switches, and encoders, used for position and presence detection on automated sewing equipment.
  • Basic understanding of industrial electronics including sensors, relays, switches, actuators, servo and stepper motor systems, power supplies, and control circuits.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices around electrical and moving equipment required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with fixtures, jigs, sensors, wiring, or machine troubleshooting in a production environment preferred.
  • Experience in sewing, textile, or sewn products manufacturing is preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity with production support, root cause problem-solving, and continuous improvement practices preferred.
  • Familiarity with sewing equipment, industrial machine controls, or programmable automation devices preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, load, adjust, and modify machine programs or operating parameters on electronic or PLC-based sewing and related equipment to support different products and operations.
  • Build, install, adjust, and maintain fixtures, guides, clamps, jigs, sensors, and related devices used to improve consistency and quality in sewing operations.
  • Assist in wiring, connecting, and testing sensors, actuators, switches, relays, servo motors, drives, and other control components used on sewing and support equipment.
  • Troubleshoot basic electrical, electronic, sensor, and control-related issues on sewing machinery and escalate more advanced problems as needed.
  • Support optimization of machine settings such as speed, stitch patterns, feed, timing, tension, and motion profiles to meet quality and productivity requirements.
  • Work with Maintenance, Engineering, and Production personnel to translate process requirements into machine settings, fixture adjustments, and repeatable operating methods.
  • Maintain organized backups of machine programs, parameter files, wiring information, fixture records, and change history.
  • Create and update basic technical documentation, work instructions, equipment settings sheets, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Assist with operator and technician training related to machine programs, fixtures, controls, and proper equipment use.
  • Participate in equipment trials, process validation, sample runs, and implementation of new sewing methods or products.
  • Support preventive maintenance efforts by inspecting controls, connectors, wiring, sensors, servo drives, and fixture condition and reporting abnormalities.
  • Follow all company safety, quality, and compliance requirements while working with manufacturing equipment and electrical devices.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested.
