About The Position

Performs all the duties of a Licensed HVAC including repairs, installs, and replace equipment in Facility and Property. This role requires a strong understanding of various HVAC systems, including electrical equipment, circuits, controls, and refrigerant handling. The technician will be responsible for installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC components, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and company procedures. The position also involves maintaining repair records, improving preventive maintenance programs, and ensuring a clean and orderly work environment.

Requirements

  • Must have a Journeyman NY License.
  • Must hold a NY State License.
  • Candidates need to be able to work on any shift including 3rd shift.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Performs repairs, installations, and replacements of HVAC equipment.
  • Reads and understands blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
  • Handles rigging and material handling, including safe unloading of materials and use of ladders, scaffolding, power lifts, and personnel lifts.
  • Manages the handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals and refrigerant drums.
  • Recovers chlorofluorocarbon refrigerant gases.
  • Identifies potential in-place asbestos material and follows procedures for avoidance and notification.
  • Installs HVAC equipment, including setting, mounting, hanging, fittings, tubing, pipe, vibration elimination, evacuation, venting, insulation, welding, soldering, brazing, tanks, and piping, and heat recovery systems.
  • Performs soldering of piping systems, including soft soldering, hard soldering, and brazing.
  • Understands and works with various controls, including Thermostatic Switches, Humidistats, Analog Controls, Direct Digital Controls (DDC), Microprocessor Controls, Solid State Controls, Starters, Contactors, Relays, Safeties, Pneumatic Systems Damper, and Oil Burner Controls.
  • Calibrates controls and balances air distribution systems to maintain proper air temperature.
  • Operates central and auxiliary computers to monitor, test, control, and operate boilers, auxiliary systems, and energy management systems.
  • Understands and works with various valves, including Expansion Valves, Solenoid Valves, Evaporator-Liquid Compressor regulating Valve, and Service Valves.
  • Understands and works with various evaporators, including gravity forced air, low side float, high side float, flooded/dry, low temperature, high temperature, fin type, plates, water cooling, and double refrigerant types.
  • Understands compressor characteristics and types, including rotary, reciprocating, semi-sealed belt drive, and electric motors.
  • Understands condenser installation and service, including air-cooled, water-cooled, and water towers.
  • Understands air conditioning principles, including aerodynamics, distribution, airflow, sizing, cleaning, dehydrating, cooling, heating, insulating valves, heat recovery, motors, fans, pumps, compressors, air purification, and humidifiers.
  • Tests, charges, starts, and adjusts systems, including testing for leaks, cleaning, drying, charging with refrigerant, and adjusting controls.
  • Installs and services oil and gas burners.
  • Services, tests, and adjusts nozzles, ignition, pumps, regulating valves, and addresses issues like smoke, soot, noise, and excessive fuel consumption.
  • Familiarizes with machine shop tools and methods, general circuits, and general troubleshooting.
  • Maintains and inventories all tools, equipment, and replacement parts.
  • Maintains the Valve Backflow Prevention Program and provides necessary documentation.
  • Follows all Local, State, and Federal Rules.
  • Maintains repair records through FIIX and/or Velocity.
  • Improves the Preventive Maintenance Program for facility units and provides documentation to the Facility Manager.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly maintenance shop.
