About The Position

This recruitment is open and promotional, meaning all are welcome to apply and current employees in permanent positions are eligible to receive seniority credit and promotional placement once passing all exams. There is currently one vacancy in the Maintenance and Operations Department (8 hours per day, 5 days per week, 12 months per year). Under the direction of the Manager, Maintenance and Operations, perform journey-level electrical and specialized work involved in the installation, maintenance, repair, and alterations of various District electrical systems.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school supplemented by completion of an approved apprenticeship program in field of specialty and four years journey-level electrical experience.
  • Valid California driver's license.
  • Methods, materials and equipment used in electrical installation, alterations and repair work.
  • Principles and practices of electrical systems.
  • Building, health and safety codes related to the electrical trade.
  • Operation of hand and machine tools used in the electrical trade.
  • Appropriate health and safety procedures.
  • Technical aspects of field of specialty.
  • Basic record-keeping techniques.
  • Perform skilled electrical repair and maintenance work.
  • Operate a variety of electrical tools and equipment skillfully.
  • Plan and lay out electrical work.
  • Work from sketches, diagrams, blueprints, plans and specifications.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Work independently with little direction.
  • Maintain current knowledge of technological advances in the field.

Responsibilities

  • Perform journey-level electrical and specialized work involved in the installation, maintenance, repair and alterations of various District electrical systems; inspect and troubleshoot electrical systems, motors, controls and wiring; maintain records related to work performed.
  • Install, repair and maintain electrical receptacles, switches, controls and lighting systems; replace fuses; assure power connection to fixtures and lighting controls.
  • Install wire molds for computer labs; determine necessary circuits and evaluate breaker space; add new circuits; install conduit runs as required.
  • Install and maintain power distribution, transformers, circuit breaker systems, electrical panel boards and emergency lighting systems.
  • Maintain and repair a variety of mechanical and electrical equipment and systems including ovens, hot food carts, generators, exhaust fans and emergency lights and other related equipment.
  • Install and maintain shop machinery and power tools; estimate costs and order parts, supplies and equipment for electrical projects; maintain related records.
  • Communicate with other departments and administrators regarding projects and job requests.
  • Operate a variety of electrical tools and equipment; drive a vehicle to assigned sites to conduct work; respond to emergency service calls as needed.
  • Assure compliance with District policies and building, health and safety codes applicable to the electrical trade.
  • Coordinate and direct the work of assigned helpers.
  • Assist with maintenance and special projects as assigned.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
