This role is a Shift Electrician position with multiple classifications based on experience and knowledge, offering opportunities for advancement based on merit. The classifications range from Class D (basic knowledge) to Lead Electrician (supervisory and advanced troubleshooting). This is a 3rd Shift position.

Requirements

  • Class D: Completion of basic courses in AC/DC circuits, electrical schematic reading, technical math, basic programmable logic controllers.
  • Class D: Minimum of 1-1/2 years of experience within an industrial maintenance/repair environment.
  • Class D: Must be able to demonstrate basic troubleshooting and repair abilities with minimal assistance.
  • Class D: Be able to use or demonstrate proficiency in basic hand / power tools, general shop equipment (drill press, band saw), volt-ohm meter, basic computer skills.
  • Class D: Have a basic understanding of safety regulations - confined space, lockout/tagout, fall prevention, electrical safety.
  • Class D: Be able to describe the hazards of working with energized equipment.
  • Class D: Be able to use or demonstrate proficiency in Oscilloscope, ammeters, megger, conduit bender, pipe threader, tap/dies, perform conversions and calculations.
  • Class D: Be able to discuss requirements for grounding.
  • Class D: Must be able to use computers, technical manuals, and schematics/drawings to determine correct repair parts and locate in parts system.
  • Class C: In addition to Class D requirements.
  • Class C: Completion of courses in variable speed drives, electric motor controls, tech physics, national electric code.
  • Class C: 1 year as Class D electrician (2-1/2 total years in Cerro employment or equivalent experience in similar industrial environment).
  • Class C: Must be able to demonstrate troubleshooting and repair abilities with little or no assistance.
  • Class C: Be able to use or demonstrate proficiency in calculating loads and determining appropriate protection, conductors, and overloads, laying out conduit and panels, aligning motors with dial indicator or laser alignment set, and troubleshooting PLC’s using appropriate software (RSLogix 5, 500, 5000 and Automation Direct Productivity Series).
  • Class B: In addition to Class C requirements.
  • Class B: Completion of courses in fluid power principles, industrial and commercial wiring, basic welding.
  • Class B: 1 year as Class C electrician (3-1/2 total years in Cerro employment or equivalent experience in similar industrial environment).
  • Class B: Must be able to demonstrate troubleshooting and repair abilities with no assistance and be able to assist electricians in lower grades.
  • Class B: Be able to use or demonstrate proficiency in performing trending and drive analysis using appropriate software, performing basic program modifications.
  • Class B: Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Class B: Be able to document modifications/changes to drawings (redline).
  • Class B: Must be able to successfully pass a basic welding exam.
  • Class A: In addition to Class B requirements.
  • Class A: Continued growth will be offered and as technologies change, should be expected.
  • Class A: 1 year as Class B electrician (4-1/2 total years in Cerro employment or equivalent experience in similar industrial environment).
  • Class A: Be able to troubleshoot and repair complex problems and instruct other electricians in lower grades.
  • Class A: Analyze electronic circuits and be able to explain their purpose and function.
  • Class A: Troubleshoot programming and network problems.
  • Class A: Be able to document troubleshooting progress and write reports.
  • Class A: Must be able to use computer and basic office software.
  • Lead Electrician: In addition to Class A requirements.
  • Lead Electrician: 1 year as Class A electrician (5-1/2 total years in Cerro employment or equivalent experience in similar industrial environment).
  • Following receipt of a conditional offer of employment, candidates will be required to complete additional job-related screening processes as permitted or required by applicable law.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair machinery and electrical systems.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting and repair abilities with minimal assistance (Class D).
  • Troubleshoot and repair abilities with little or no assistance (Class C).
  • Troubleshoot and repair abilities with no assistance and assist electricians in lower grades (Class B).
  • Troubleshoot and repair complex problems and instruct other electricians in lower grades (Class A).
  • Supervise and assist other electricians or General Maintenance personnel (Lead Electrician).
  • Oversee and delegate all electrical inspections and infrared thermography (Lead Electrician).
  • Assist Maintenance Manager in finding suitable replacement electrical components (Lead Electrician).
  • Act as goodwill ambassador between Maintenance and Production (Lead Electrician).
  • Warn management of upcoming issues or concerns when safety or production may be adversely affected (Lead Electrician).
  • Perform duties under duress and maintain a professional attitude (Lead Electrician).
  • Train new personnel when required (Lead Electrician).
  • Assess those under supervision for abilities and determine if additional training is needed (Lead Electrician).
  • Offer diagnosis and input to Senior Controls Engineer or Electrical/Automation Projects Engineer (Lead Electrician).
  • Understand the importance of safety, both for personnel and machine (Lead Electrician).
