About The Position

The Level 1 Diesel Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of a fleet of diesel-powered vehicles. Under the supervision of experienced technicians, this position is responsible for performing basic maintenance and minor repairs on trucks and trailers.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Driver’s license in state of residency with acceptable driving record
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and submit to the company random drug and alcohol program
  • Basic knowledge of diesel engines and automotive systems
  • Willingness to learn and work in a team-oriented environment
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to lift heavy equipment and work in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to work any schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to read and understand technical service manuals
  • Ability to operate and interpret industry standard diagnostic software for heavy duty truck tractors

Nice To Haves

  • Vocational or Technical training in diesel mechanics, welding, or a related field
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
  • Knowledge of Cummings Insite and PACCAR Davie software
  • 1 year related experience

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including oil changes, filter replacements, and tire rotations
  • Conduct inspections to identify and diagnose minor mechanical issues according to Department of Transportation (DOT) Standards
  • Assist senior technicians in making necessary repairs and adjustments
  • Keep accurate records of maintenance and repair work performed
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area
  • Comply with safety guidelines and federal and state regulations at all times
  • Use diagnostic tools, hand tools, and specialized equipment
  • Read precision instruments such as voltmeters, digital multimeters, calibrators and other electronic diagnostic tools
  • Troubleshoot and perform failure analysis of the component parts and systems on the truck or truck tractor; or the component parts and systems of the truck
  • Communicate with drivers, dispatchers and management to determine which repairs are necessary, determine priority and provide estimated time of completion
  • Apply knowledge of DOT, EPA, and OSHA rules and regulations
  • Travel within designated region for service calls and temporary roadside maintenance
  • Participate in training programs to develop technical skills
  • Other related duties as assigned
