About The Position

The Salvation Army Rochester Corps is “Doing the Most Good” by providing holistic, person-centered services to individuals and families in need. In addition to worship services and pastoral care, services include short and long-term case management; food, clothing, utility, rent, and housing support; and connections to community partners. The Maintenance Custodian ensures a clean, safe, and welcoming facility through custodial work, basic maintenance, and event support. Responsibilities also include minor repairs, grounds upkeep and securing the building as a key holder.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required.
At least one year of custodial and/or general maintenance experience required.
Must pass background checks.
Possess a valid driver’s license.
Have a clear MVR.
Knowledge of safe use and handling of cleaning chemicals, tools, and equipment.
Basic understanding of preventative maintenance and ability to perform light repairs.
Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, sweeping, mopping, climbing ladders, and snow removal.
Dependable and self-motivated with strong attention to detail.
Effective communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Clear and respectful communication with team members, volunteers, and guests is essential.

Nice To Haves

Two years of custodial and/or general maintenance experience preferred.
Basic computer skills (e.g., using email or completing simple work orders) a plus.

Responsibilities

Ensure assigned areas—including the Social Services building, Chapel, offices, common areas, and restrooms—are maintained in a clean, orderly, and sanitary condition through routine custodial tasks.
Support preventative maintenance efforts by completing assigned work orders and performing tasks within the scope of training and established safety guidelines.
Maintain exterior grounds by removing debris and performing light landscaping tasks. May assist with seasonal needs such as snow removal, lawn mowing, or basic vehicle upkeep.
Provide logistical support for special and seasonal events, including room setup, supply transport, and related tasks.
Assist with small-scale repairs and facility improvement projects across assigned buildings and properties.
Secure the building as a key holder.
Drive an agency vehicle locally to support the mission of The Salvation Army.
