About The Position

The Custodial / Maintenance Technician supports the mission of McDonell Area Catholic Schools by maintaining safe, clean, and functional learning environments across all campuses. This position performs a wide range of facility and grounds maintenance tasks including preventative maintenance, repairs, and general custodial work as needed. The technician ensures that all MACS facilities are well maintained, welcoming, and aligned with safety and health standards. This role requires a hands-on, dependable individual with strong technical and problem-solving skills who takes pride in supporting the daily operations of a multi-building school system.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience as a maintenance technician
  • Strong understanding of general maintenance processes and methods
  • Working knowledge of tools and other devices
  • Basic understanding of plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Supports the mission and vision of McDonell Area Catholic Schools
  • Ability to perform physical labor including lifting, climbing, and operating equipment safely
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required

Responsibilities

  • Perform general maintenance and repair of facilities, equipment, and systems (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, painting, etc.).
  • Conduct regular inspections of buildings and grounds to identify and resolve maintenance needs.
  • Carry out preventive maintenance schedules to ensure building systems operate safely and efficiently.
  • Respond to maintenance work orders in a timely and professional manner; maintain accurate records of work completed.
  • Operate and maintain tools, vehicles, and equipment safely and responsibly.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with custodial staff to support daily building operations and cleanliness.
  • Serve as a backup custodian to fill coverage gaps caused by absence, vacation, or scheduling needs.
  • Support safety initiatives, including snow and ice removal, fire safety inspections, and building security measures.
  • Assist with set-up and tear-down for school events and special functions.
  • Maintain awareness of and compliance with applicable building codes, safety standards, and diocesan policies.
  • Other related duties as assigned to maintain the health, safety, and functionality of MACS facilities.
