About The Position

This position is assigned to Public Works - Drainage Maintenance. The Maintenance Crew Leader II serves as a crew chief to supervise various job tasks assigned by the Superintendent and/or foreman. Transport equipment to and from job sites. Operate various equipment such as sweepers, loaders, bulldozers, track excavators, maintainers, mowers, etc.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum three years of experience in operation of heavy equipment.
  • Experience in underground utilities and/or road construction.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Texas Commercial Class A Driver's License within six months of hire date.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a Class II Wastewater Collection License issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and Class "C" Water Distribution.
  • Proficiency in both job management and personnel management.
  • Ability to understand and read plans and design specifications and be able to transfer work from paper to construction.
  • Fundamental knowledge of water and sewer system construction and repair techniques.
  • Ability to lift weights of 50 pounds and 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment, crew truck and tractor type equipment with proficiency.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to work as many hours needed to get the work assigned completed.
  • Ability to use all tools to accomplish the job in an efficient manner.
  • Ability to adapt to new technology, new methods and changing conditions.
  • Ability to stand, stoop, kneel, or sit for long periods of time.
  • Must be capable of reading, writing and speaking in English.
  • Must be able to communicate using a two-way radio.
  • Must pass background check and pre-employment substance abuse screening.
  • A motor vehicle record check and job-related doctor's physical exam may also be required.
  • Safety-sensitive positions remain subject to random drug and alcohol testing after hire.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise various job tasks assigned by the Superintendent and/or foreman.
  • Transport equipment to and from job sites.
  • Operate various equipment such as sweepers, loaders, bulldozers, track excavators, maintainers, mowers, etc.
  • Conduct routine maintenance to vehicles and equipment.
  • Work on call duty and respond at any hour during an emergency when requested.
  • Attend after hours classes to renew or obtain required certifications/licenses when necessary.
