About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Salary Range: $43,738 - $76,542 Reporting to the Facility Maintenance Supervisor, this position will perform skilled work in the maintenance, repair, and/or construction of buildings and facilities. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: About Harnett Correctional Institution: Harnett Correctional Institution is located in Lillington, North Carolina and houses up to 988 male offenders in a medium custody facility.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of the methods, practices, tools, and/or materials used in the general maintenance and/or repair of buildings, equipment, and/or machinery.
  • MAY require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.
  • Please make sure to list and/or attach a copy of your EPA Type I, II, III and/or Universal Technician certification on your application (see above requirement).
  • High school or General Educational Development diploma and two years of experience in the performance of the full range of journey level tasks associated with two or more highly complex mechanical or building trades Or An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Functioning at the journey level in at least two skilled trades such as electrical, plumbing, masonry, carpentry, or similar specializations in connection with maintenance of facilities, related equipment, and machinery.
  • Planning and coordinating multiple trade disciplines while completing complex work assignments.
  • Working independently, however, may seek input from higher level trade specialists or refer unusual work problems to their supervisor for consideration and final determination.
  • Supervising skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled labor (including offenders) to assist in completing assigned tasks.
