About The Position

The North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources (DNCR) is seeking a Maintenance Construction Technician III for its NC State Parks division. This role is responsible for maintaining state park grounds, buildings, facilities, and equipment. The position assists park rangers and additional maintenance staff with various tasks including custodial duties, park boundary line clearing and maintenance, trail maintenance, trash collection, mowing, trimming, prescribed burns, and auto mechanics. The role also involves the supervision of one full-time staff member and multiple seasonal staff.

Requirements

  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma AND two (2) years of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas; OR An equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license issued from within the United States or be able to obtain one within 90 days of employment.
  • Within 12-24 months of hire date, must have the ability to obtain and maintain: Class A CDL, CPR Certification, Emergency Medical Responder Certification, Wildland Fire Suppression Certifications, Certified in S212 Chainsaw Operations Training - perform hazardous tree assessments and if necessary, tree removal within the park, Pesticide Applicator License.
  • May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated work experience performing trades in at least two of the following: carpentry, plumbing, electrical and/or auto mechanics.
  • Demonstrated experience in performing grounds maintenance/landscaping.
  • Demonstrated experience in performing maintenance on buildings, facilities, and/or grounds maintenance equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience reading and/or interpreting blueprints/structural specifications and/or building codes.

Responsibilities

  • Performing a variety of skilled tasks in a trade such as plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC and facility maintenance, and/or auto mechanics.
  • Operation and repair of various large and small tools and equipment.
  • Purchasing resources in accordance with state purchasing policies and procedures.
  • Maintaining records and preparing operational forms.
  • Assisting in housekeeping.
  • May supervise temporary and/or permanent employees including various volunteers and community service participants on special projects.
  • Maintaining preventative maintenance on various tools, equipment and facilities.
