About The Position
The primary mission of the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is to provide science-based environmental stewardship for the health and prosperity of all North Carolinians. The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is the lead stewardship agency for the protection of North Carolina's environmental resources. The organization, which has offices from the mountains to the coast, administers regulatory programs designed to protect air quality, water quality, and the public's health, and works to advance in all-of-the-above energy strategy that fits North Carolina's needs. DEQ also offers technical assistance to businesses, farmers, local governments, and the public and encourages responsible behavior with respect to the environment through education programs provided at DEQ facilities and through the state's school system. Requirements
- High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two (2) years of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.
Responsibilities
- Performing highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain laboratory and facility equipment.
- Performing general maintenance for four buildings encompassing 87,000 square feet including generators, chillers, boilers, and other related facilities located at the Department of Environmental Quality’s Water Science Laboratory and office complex located at the Reedy Creek Road Complex.
- Implementing a preventative maintenance program.
- Ordering and maintaining a prescribed load listing of supplies and for maintaining stock control procedures.
- Performs daily morning building and grounds inspections.
- Responsible for monitoring our work order system, responding to requests in a timely fashion, as well as identifying, isolating, and rectifying faults.
- Provides limited contract oversight for housekeeping, grounds, and vendor maintenance contracts.
