The Division of Juvenil Justice's Facility Maintenance section employs a regional hub structure, consisting of three geographically located hubs: Cabarrus, CA Dillon, and Lenoir/Dobbs. These hubs serve the Western, Central and Eastern regions, and operate as the primary locations for storing division hardware assets and deploying manpower for complex preventive and corrective maintenance tasks.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in construction management, air conditioning, heating and refrigeration technology, industrial maintenance technology or mechanical engineering technology from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressive experience in construction or facility maintenance including two (2) years of supervisory experience in construction, maintenance and/or repair of buildings and facilities; or
  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and five (5) years of progressive experience in facility maintenance or construction including journey level experience in at least three (3) building or mechanical trades including two (2) years of supervisory experience in construction, maintenance and/or repair of buildings and facilities; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with managing budgets for construction projects, including estimating repairs.
  • Experience in planning, coordinating, and managing maintenance personnel in varied trade disciplines.
  • Demonstrated journeyman level knowledge in the methodologies of facility maintenance and repairs within the general, plumbing, mechanical, electrical and/or electronics trades.
  • Knowledge of NC building codes, environmental rules, and all other rules and regulations governing repair and maintenance of facilities.
  • Experience reading schematics, to include blueprints.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures work meets all regulatory requirements that apply to maintenance, renovation, repair, and construction.
  • Plan and delegate work for assigned facilities establishing short and long-term priorities and deadlines.
  • Provide input and recommendations regarding the assigned facilities operational budget(s) related to maintenance.
  • Ability to direct journey level work on a variety of trades.
  • Attend meetings with outside contractors, vendors and Division and Departmental officials to plan and review maintenance, construction and renovation projects.
  • Through the use of effective oral and written communication skills, supervise, instruct, train, review and evaluate the work and performance of maintenance personnel.
  • Planning and scheduling of preventive maintenance for equipment and mechanical devices.
