About The Position

The Maintenance Assistant plays a pivotal role in supporting the maintenance department's operations, encompassing preventative maintenance programs, as well as the repair, installation, modification, and relocation of plant equipment and facilities. This role is crucial for ensuring optimal operational conditions within the facility.

Requirements

  • High school education or GED required.
  • Ability to work safely and efficiently in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job including the ability to lift 50 pounds and work on your feet on a concrete floor for the entire shift.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others and work well in a team environment.
  • Prolonged periods of standing, crouching climbing and/or walking.
  • Precise hand-eye coordination to handle equipment and materials effectively.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs or more, carry, and manipulate heavy materials and equipment.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and work with heights exceeding 5 feet.
  • Capacity to endure repetitive tasks and maintain focus for extended periods.
  • Ability to hear warning signals and communicate effectively in a noisy environment.
  • Clear vision is necessary to inspect materials and read gauges and instruments accurately.
  • Problem-solving skills: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues that may arise during operations.
  • Capable of making quick decisions to optimize processes and minimize downtime.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing production demands and work effectively under pressure.
  • Effective communication is essential for coordinating with team members and reporting any issues promptly.
  • Maintain orderly work areas and adhere to production schedules.
  • Must provide his/her own hand tools.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to qualify for a hi-lo license.
  • Must be able to use a riding lawn mower.
  • Must be able to use a snow blower or a shovel to clear snow.
  • Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) including gloves, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots.

Responsibilities

  • Facilities maintenance, ensuring optimal operational conditions.
  • Weld and repair equipment or tools as necessary to minimize downtime.
  • Conduct scheduled inspections of equipment and forklifts to preemptively address potential issues.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance team to facilitate equipment repairs and upkeep.
  • Strictly adhere to safety protocols for personnel and facility protection.
  • Execute tasks as directed by the maintenance manager or as mandated by plant management.
  • Fulfill any additional duties as assigned to support operational needs.
