About The Position

As a Maintenance Apprentice, you will pair skills you learn in the classroom with on-the-job training alongside veteran Maintenance personnel. You will follow the DOL Industrial Maintenance Technician Journeyman OJL learning protocol to become a licensed Maintenance Journeyman, while also completing the required educational coursework. You will learn to repair and maintain machinery and mechanical equipment such as CNC machining centers, conveyor systems, welding equipment, and various other production machines and equipment.

Requirements

  • Strong personal commitment to safety standards in industrial and/or manufacturing environments.
  • Strong dedication to learning and developing new skills on and off of the job.
  • Read, follow, and understand work orders and instructions, processes, and procedures related to equipment.
  • Basic math skills with the ability to understand measuring/measurement concepts and their applications.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to safely use power tools, air tools and other vibratory tools.
  • Able to obtain PIV, aerial, overhead crane/hoist licenses.
  • Follow and explain detailed verbal and written area instructions, processes, and procedures.
  • Must have a high school diploma/GED or equivalent work experience.
  • Must complete Ramsay MultiCraft Aptitude test for consideration.
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including, but not limited to, safety glasses, steel-toed or metatarsal-guarded shoes, and/or ear plugs, while working in an industrial and/or manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to use hands to handle, feel, or manipulate objects with fingers.
  • Ability to frequently sit, stand, walk, and reach within hands and/or arm’s length.
  • Ability to frequently stoop, kneel, and crouch.
  • Ability to occasionally reach overhead or at or below shoulder level.
  • Ability to ascend or descend ladders or steps in confined spaces, as required by work area.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects between 25 and 50 pounds in weight in all directions.
  • Ability to remain in stationary or standing position for prolonged periods and to alternate between positions as necessary.
  • Ability to repeat gross or fine manipulation that may include the use of wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Ability to perform close visual inspections of products, which may include specific vision requirements.
  • Ability to clearly see pedestrians and objects, which may include specific vision requirements.
  • Ability to work in an open warehouse environment as well as outside, subject to seasonal weather (hot/cold).
  • Ability to climb and operate on catwalks, ladders, equipment, etc., to adequately troubleshoot maintenance problems.
  • Ability to work at heights over 20 feet and in equipment pits accessible only by ladder.
  • Ability to safely operate standing and sit-down power industrial trucks (PIT), and other similar and advanced industrial equipment. Operation may include operating equipment at heights.
  • Ability to correctly wear a PAPR/respirator when work requires.
  • Ability to fit, crawl, and maneuver into small and awkward places when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Complete and pass required educational coursework (2 years) and DOL OJL requirements (3 years).
  • Performs work in settings with other skilled team members assisting while learning on-the-job.
  • Develops skills similar to that of maintenance technicians and utilizes those skills on an individual basis in greater depth as they reach the end of the apprenticeship program.
  • Obtain basic ability to read blueprints, engineering plans, material documents, and specifications.
  • Develops skills in machine maintenance by assisting technicians in regular upkeep and advanced preventative maintenance of machines.
  • Learn and comply with all OSHA and plant safety rules including lock-out tag-out, machine guarding, etc.
  • Maintain appropriate operational documentation, including production and quality logs.
  • Signals issues or irregularities to appropriate machinist, team lead, or supervisor.
  • Keep work area and department clean and organized.
  • Maintain safe operations by adhering to all relevant safety guidelines, procedures, and regulations and flagging any equipment or safety issues to the appropriate team lead, supervisor, maintenance, or EHS personnel utilizing “Stop, Call, Wait” procedure.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned.
