About The Position

This Maintenance Apprentice role involves performing a wide variety of tasks associated with maintaining molding, assembly, and auxiliary equipment. Apprentices are required to follow the Berry Global – Princeton apprenticeship guidelines, which include successfully completing two classes per semester (Spring and Fall semesters) with classes scheduled during non-working hours. Key responsibilities include installing, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance on operating, other, and support equipment. The apprentice will troubleshoot and repair electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and program issues with Molding and AMO machines and all support equipment, as well as install electrical, plumbing, and interface systems on machines. The role also involves developing solutions to improve and resolve machine issues, performing MIG & TIG welding, and utilizing fabricating skills. Apprentices must be able to read prints/schematics, understand PLC and RS Logic, and use them for testing and adjustments. Daily preventative maintenance and proper paperwork are essential, along with compliance with safety regulations and lean manufacturing principles. The apprentice will collaborate with other mechanics, engineering, and manufacturing teams to ensure continuous plant operations and provide general facilities maintenance. Adherence to applicable Food Safety and cGMP policies is also required.

Requirements

  • Effective written and oral communication skills necessary.
  • Must be able to work with limited supervision.
  • Additional training may be required to retain position.

Nice To Haves

  • 1-2 years of experience working in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Some experience and ability to read prints/schematics helpful.
  • Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and welding is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, repairs, and performs preventative maintenance of operating equipment, other equipment, and support equipment as assigned.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and or program issues with Molding and AMO machines and all support equipment.
  • Installs electrical, plumbing and interface systems on machines.
  • Develops solutions to improve and resolve issues with machines.
  • Performs MIG & TIG welding.
  • Uses fabricating skills.
  • Reads prints/schematics.
  • Understands PLC and RS Logic and knows how to use them to test equipment and/or make adjustments to equipment.
  • Performs daily PM’s and maintains the proper paperwork.
  • Complies with safety regulations and established lean manufacturing principles.
  • Works with other mechanics, engineering, and manufacturing to ensure continuous operations within the plant.
  • Provides general facilities maintenance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Follows applicable Food Safety and cGMP policies.
