About The Position

Xcel Energy is looking to fill a Maintenance Apprentice (1st Year) position at the Cunningham Station in Hobbs, NM! This role involves troubleshooting, constructing, and maintaining plant equipment such as turbines, boilers, pumps, compressors, and cooling towers. The employee will actively participate in hands-on training, classroom sessions, and computer-based learning as directed by management. A key requirement is the successful completion of a 4-year apprentice program to qualify for Maintenance Journeyman. Travel to other locations will be required.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED
Must have successfully passed the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) Maintenance Positions Selection Systems (MASS) test
Must respond to overtime and call outs.
Must commit to working safely and adhere to Company safety rules including wearing a hard hat, safety footwear, protective eye wear and Proper Protective Equipment (PPE).
Able to lift 50 pounds
Valid driver’s license
Must be respirator qualified (Pulmonary Function Test)
Must take Base line Audiogram

Nice To Haves

Welding experience and/or certification preferred
Troubleshooting experience preferred
Minimum of one-year industrial maintenance experience desired.

Responsibilities

Troubleshoot, construct, and maintain plant equipment (turbines, boilers, pumps, compressors, cooling towers, etc.).
Actively participate in hands-on training, required classroom training, and computer interactive training programs.
Successfully complete a 4-year apprentice program and qualify for Maintenance Journeyman.
Travel to other locations as required.
