About The Position

The City of Richmond, Department of Public Utilities is seeking a qualified Maintenance and Operations Supervisor, Senior to provide leadership to a crew of approximately 6-8 maintenance employees. The incumbent will be responsible for supervising designated staff within the DPU Storm Water Utility Division. Work will include: making onsite assessments of citizens request, using the computer applications to enter information from assessment, send and receive emails and approving leave application / timecards using internal computer applications. This position is responsible for training employees how to efficiency & safely operator heavy equipment (ex. backhoe, track hoe, ditchmaster, gradall, grader, Vactor Truck, & Sweeper. This position will be directing workflow and developing schedules; maintaining records; participating in long-range planning; making decisions about equipment, materials, and supply usage; managing inventory; and coordinating with contractors, vendors, and other service providers. Duties include but are not limited to Supervising Crew Chiefs, Equipment Operators and Pipeline Technicians that maintain and Maintenance Workers Completing safety inspections of jobsite, vehicles, buildings, and storm water infrastructure Assist Floodwall personnel as a supervisor with Gate Closure and perform (paid) On-Call duty for rain event & other emergencies / urgent request afterhours Create work orders for crew to complete from onsite assessment of assigned citizen’s request Completing performance evaluation of crew members Train crew members who operate heavy equipment, drive commercial vehicles and masons that builds structures using stone, brick or concrete Performing maintenance task as needed to support the crew during training and document training Coach, develop, evaluate and lead crew members

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Four years of experience in the assigned area
  • A valid Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record
  • A valid Commonwealth of Virginia Driver's License within 30 days of hire
  • Knowledge of Generators
  • Knowledge of Mechanics
  • Knowledge of Local codes for assigned trade
  • Knowledge of Supervising practices
  • Knowledge of Maintenance procedures and practices
  • Knowledge of Maintenance equipment and tools
  • Knowledge of "Miss Utility" laws and rules
  • Knowledge of Safety rules and regulations; OSHA laws and rules
  • Knowledge of City of Richmond rules and standards
  • Knowledge of Traffic control
  • Knowledge of Service repairs
  • Knowledge of Fire alarms and sprinkler systems
  • Knowledge of Grading leaks
  • Knowledge of Natural gas systems, if area of focus
  • Knowledge of Natural gas service installation, if area of focus
  • Knowledge of American Water Works Association (AWWA) industry standards, if area of focus
  • Knowledge of Water Treatment and distribution systems, if area of focus
  • Knowledge of Valves, hydrants, blow offs, meters, bypasses, and services, if area of focus
