About The Position

Directs and coordinates activities of vendors and workers engaged in repair, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools, and equipment; and in maintenance buildings, grounds, and utility systems of mill, industrial plant or other establishment by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates. Installs and repairs electrical systems, apparatus and electrical components of industrial machinery and equipment by performing the following essential duties. This position profile identifies the key responsibilities and expectations for performance. It cannot encompass all specific job tasks that an employee may be required to perform. Employees are required to follow any other job-related instructions and perform job-related duties as may be required by his/her supervisor.

Requirements

One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Responsibilities

Manages maintenance work requests from production floor, determines priority and assigns a technician
Ensures team members comply with all safety and good manufacturing practices
Communicates to production and quality assurance equipment breakdowns and estimated time needed to complete repairs
Confers with vendors, management, engineering and quality control personnel to resolve maintenance problems and recommend measures to improve operations and conditions of machines and equipment
Audits work of team members to ensure job standards are met
Conveys all worker grievances to maintenance supervisor or manager
Conducts meetings at the end of each shift to update incoming maintenance personnel on status of breakdowns, repairs, and troubleshooting done during the previous shift
Observes and listens to sounds of mechanical devise in operation to locate any signs of trouble
Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts
Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.
Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements using micrometers, calipers, and gauges
Repair or replace defective parts
Install special functional and structural parts in devices
Lubricates and cleans parts, equipment, and machinery
Tests and adjusts equipment to meet performance specifications.
Sets up and operates lathe, drill press, grinder, saws, and other metal working tools to make and repair parts
Sharpens and reshapes tools as necessary
Initiates purchase order for parts and machines
Repairs electrical equipment
Operates boilers and chemical treatment
Maintains a flexible schedule to accommodate variable shifts ranging from 4-18 hours depending on maintenance workload
Installs power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and equipment such as robots, conveyors, and programmable controllers
Connects power supply wires to machines and equipment and connects cables and wires between machines and equipment.
Diagnoses malfunctioning apparatus such as transformers, motors, and lighting fixtures and replaces damaged or broken wires and cables.
Tests malfunctioning machinery and discusses malfunction with other maintenance workers, such as Maintenance Machine Repairer and Maintenance Tool Maker, to diagnose malfunction.
Replaces faulty electrical components of machine such as relays, switches, and motors, and positions sensing devices
Diagnoses and repairs or replaces faulty electronic components, such as printed circuit boards.
Replaces electric motor bearings and rewires motors
Pushes buttons and presses keys on robot controller, teach pendant, and programmable controller to program automated machinery, such as robots, to operate automated machinery, to test for malfunctions, and to verify repairs.
Plans layout of wiring and installs wiring, conduit, and electrical apparatus in buildings.
Diagnoses and replaces faulty mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components of machines and equipment.
