About The Position

The purpose of this position is to ensure that all product is produced to meet specifications and established standards required by the customer and the company. This role is responsible for the daily set-up and operation of a production machine, including entering product codes by hand and operating the machine to production standards. The operator will perform preventive maintenance and regular inspections of equipment, as well as basic light maintenance. They will assist Maintenance Mechanics with troubleshooting activities as needed and properly adjust the production machine to ensure efficiency, quality, and accuracy with minimal product loss. The role also involves maintaining an accurate inventory of supplies, documenting product specifications and bag usage, and participating as a member of the team. This includes fostering cohesiveness, accepting responsibility for identifying areas lacking cohesiveness, and working with the team leader and team members to resolve issues and achieve synergy. The operator must be familiar with Simmons' established operating systems (e.g., quality, security, office environment, company policies) and understand their role in supporting these systems, including communicating concerns and improvement ideas. Requirements

  • Be able to work on feet for entire shift.
  • Bending, squatting, stooping, work in elevated areas, climb stairs and ladders.
  • Be able to lift/move 3 - 20 pound bags of product at waist level.
  • Be able to assist in moving 30 -- 150 lbs. rolls of plastic bags and film from cart to machine.
  • Be able to work in a cool, wet and noisy environment.
  • Trouble shooting machines
  • Basic mechanical and computer literacy.
  • Be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English.
  • Must be able to perform basic math.
  • Must be able to demonstrate adequate mechanical knowledge via an entry-level maintenance examination.

  • Preference for poultry or food processing organization.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for daily set-up and operation of production machine.
  • Enters product code by hand.
  • Operates machine to production standards.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and inspects equipment on a regular basis.
  • Performs basic light maintenance on machine.
  • Assists Maintenance Mechanics with troubleshooting activities as needed.
  • Properly adjusts production machine to ensure efficiency, quality and accuracy with minimal loss of product.
  • Maintains accurate inventory of supplies needed to operate machine.
  • Handwritten documentation of product specs and bag usage.
  • Participates as a member of the Team.
  • Participates in ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies; coordinates work to ensure B.E.S.T practices with all team members.
  • Attends appropriate team meetings.
  • Fosters strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues; e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes, etc.
  • Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues and actively look for ways, and reinforces actions needed, to achieve synergy possible within the larger organization.
  • Is familiar with Simmons' established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies); understands the responsibility to maintain familiarity with the systems and this position's role in support of these systems - including a consideration of the impact of individual actions on the systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas.
  • Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
