SYSTRA Canada is seeking a designer to develop and optimize mainline horizontal and vertical alignments in accordance with project requirements, applicable codes, operational criteria, and engineering best practices. This includes producing alignment layouts, vertical profiles, and geometry calculations that support concept, preliminary, and detailed design stages. The role prepares and reviews alignment drawings, profiles, and geometry reports, verifying that all technical outputs are coordinated, internally consistent, and aligned with system performance, safety, and constructability requirements. The designer coordinates alignment interfaces with a wide range of disciplines, including structures, utilities, roadways, drainage, property, stops, cable containment, overhead catenary system (OCS), grounding and bonding, and wayside equipment. This involves identifying conflicts, resolving interface constraints, and ensuring alignment decisions are integrated across the broader corridor design. The role supports design reviews by presenting alignment concepts, responding to technical comments, and incorporating agreed revisions into the design. The designer also contributes to value engineering exercises and manages alignment-related changes arising from options analysis, helping evaluate alternatives based on technical, operational, cost, and spatial considerations.
