Mainframe Systems Programmer
About The Position
Maintain and support the IBM zSeries environment, including its zVM, zVSE, and ClefOS operating systems and the third-party software used on the mainframe. Install, test, and implement regular releases and fixes in production. Manage the configuration of FlashSystem storage associated with the zSeries and maintain file-transfer processes, with an emphasis on automating transfers where needed. Automation may use FAQS/PCS on zVSE, cron scripts on the FTP server, or Connect:Direct scripts and FileAgent on the Connect:Direct server. Other duties may include managing user access; monitoring and diagnosing file-transfer logs; migrating processes and software; setting up VSE monitors; maintaining FlashSystem disaster-recovery scripts and the tape library; managing disk drives in storage pools; and creating or modifying processes to support parallel operations when new companies are added. Programming work is largely scripting, including VSE/REXX, Connect:Direct procedure languages, Expect, and BIM-Edit procedures.
Requirements
- Associate degree in data processing, computer science, or a related curriculum, or equivalent experience.
- Experience or working knowledge of IBM mainframe operating environments and technologies, including VM/ESA, VSE/ESA, CICS, VTAM, BTAM, NCP, VSAM, and various third-party software.
- Technical support experience.
- Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Highly developed problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to perform hexadecimal arithmetic and understand rudimentary statistical concepts.
- Proven dependability, teamwork, integrity, and professionalism.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
- At least 5 years of experience in a total information technology environment.
- At least 10 years of experience designing, developing, and supporting technology infrastructure.

- AS/400, RS6000, AIX, and UNIX skills.
- Terraform experience.
- AWS experience.
Responsibilities
- Maintain the IBM zSeries operating systems, including zVM, zVSE, and ClefOS, by installing, testing, and implementing releases.
- Install, test, and implement releases and fixes for third-party mainframe software.
- Perform configuration management for FlashSystem storage associated with the IBM zSeries.

- Maintain the tape library and system backups.
- Add or remove disk drives in storage pools as needed.
- Create or modify duplicate processes to support parallel operations when new companies are added.
- Write scripts and procedures using VSE/REXX, Connect:Direct procedure languages, Expect, and BIM-Edit.
