About The Position

Gen3 seeks a Mainframe Systems Engineer to provide senior-level engineering expertise covering legacy IRS mainframe environments connected to hybrid cloud data flows. The Mainframe Engineer will also support data inventory and tagging (DIT) integration, data tagging, and security control enforcement in mainframe-connected systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of science or engineering in computer science, and/or related fields.
  • 10+ years mainframe engineering.
  • Experience integrating mainframe systems with cloud, data loss prevention, data inventory and tagging, and Zero Trust programs.
  • Eligible to work for any employer in the United States without requiring sponsorship. Most of our positions require a government security clearance, you must be a US Citizen or Green Card holder for consideration. Certain positions require at least three (3) of the past five (5) years of residence in the United States.
  • A minimum of three (3) out of the past five (5) years of residency in the United States is mandatory.
  • Candidates must possess either an active green card or citizenship.
  • Prospective employees offered a position must have work authorization that does not necessitate employer-sponsored visa sponsorship, both presently and in the future.
  • Those selected for this role may undergo a government security investigation and must meet the eligibility criteria for accessing classified information or be eligible for security clearances.

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of IRS legacy systems is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze mainframe data flows and support data tagging, classification, and protection strategies for legacy systems.
  • Integrate mainframe security with Cybersecurity Information Protection Enhancement, data loss prevention, data inventory and tagging, CASB/SASE architectures.
  • Support modernization efforts, mapping legacy data, schemas, and lineage as part of enterprise data inventory.
  • Design controls to prevent exfiltration, unauthorized replication, or misuse of mainframe data.
  • Assist with modeling, documentation, testing, and incident response workflows.
