About The Position

As a Mainframe COBOL Software Engineer, you will join the Core Acquiring Front End engineering group within Fiserv’s Global Business Solutions (Payment Acceptance) business. The group supports mission-critical platforms for payment acquiring, processing more than 50 million payment authorizations per day and peak throughput exceeding 8,000 transactions per second. The applications send captured authorizations to settlement processing so merchant clients can be funded. You will develop customized solutions for the North Front End Host Data Capture applications, supporting critical business functions and project objectives, client requirements, and company goals. The role balances platform stability and resiliency with modern engineering practices. It also includes production support and long-term application improvements to meet evolving mission requirements. This is a full-time, direct-hire, on-site role, Monday through Friday. The position is not eligible to be performed in Colorado, California, the District of Columbia, Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Nevada, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, Maine, or Washington. Some nights and weekends are required during the year for production code deployments and team support.

Requirements

At least 4 years of experience with COBOL, CICS, TCP/IP, and Mainframe.
At least 4 years of experience with the full software development life cycle and testing methodologies.
At least 4 years of experience writing and documenting technical designs.
At least 2 years of experience with SQL and DB2 databases.
At least 1 year of experience using GenAI assistants or LLM developer tools and incorporating AI into daily development activities.
Ability to work some nights and weekends during the year for production code deployments and the team support schedule.
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, work, and/or military experience.

Responsibilities

Provide 24x7x365 production support for the North Front End Host Data Capture applications, including research and investigation, fixes, stakeholder reporting, and implementation.
Make long-term improvements to applications to ensure compatibility with evolving mission requirements.
Design, code, test, and debug high-transaction-volume software on IBM Mainframe using COBOL, JCL, DB2, and TCP/IP.
Create design documentation and review it with project stakeholders and management.
Collaborate with the test team to ensure software changes are tested properly.
Peer review code changes, backout plans, and implementation plans with the team.
Use Jira to track software changes from design through deployment.
Use ServiceNow to create change records and work incidents.
Communicate and collaborate with project managers, clients, and developers throughout development, testing, and deployment.
Present ideas to Product and IT management for application performance improvements and innovations that increase efficiency, reduce costs, or increase revenue.
Keep current with evolving technologies, secure coding principles, and payment-business developments relevant to the applications.
Maintain a flexible, proactive work environment to respond to changing project requirements and customer objectives.
