About The Position

Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center is seeking a Surgical Tech to prepare the operating room and surgical team for successful surgical procedures. This role involves setting up surgical equipment and instruments, assisting the surgical team, and maintaining a sterile environment. The ideal candidate will be adaptable, a strong team player, and enthusiastic about supporting complex surgical procedures, contributing directly to patient healing.

Requirements

• High School Graduate General Studies and Minimum of two (2) years of surgical experience, upon hire or High School GED General Studies and Minimum of two (2) years of surgical experience, upon hire
• Certified Surgical Technologist, upon hire or Technologist in Surgery-Certified, upon hire
• Basic Life Support - CPR, within 14 - days

Responsibilities

• Assists surgical team in the scrubbing role according to prescribed standards and licensure.
• Maintains sterile field. Reports immediately any breaks in aseptic technique.
• Passes instruments, suture products, medication, and sponge materials to surgeon.
• Assists with retracting of tissue and organs, and suctioning by holding the retracting instrument which has been placed by the surgeon.
• Electrosurgical current may be applied as directed by the surgeon, to an established instrument placed by the surgeon.
• Performs surgical counts with the RN according to policy and procedure.
