About The Position

Provides perioperative patient care, specifically in the intraoperative phase, in both the scrub and circulating roles according to established guidelines. Serves as a clinical resource, preceptor and role model. Serves the population from infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric.

Requirements

Perioperative patient care experience
Experience in scrub and circulating roles
Knowledge of equipment set-up and function
Ability to initiate and direct room clean up and turnover
Ability to initiate/maintain patient/family education and safety
Ability to provide a safe environment for patient and staff
Ability to implement standards of aseptic technique
Ability to control the physical and psychological aspects of the environment
Ability to collect and analyze data and assess patient in developing nursing diagnosis
Ability to serve as a resource and role model in clinical practice
Ability to collaborate with management on supply/budget issues, employee concerns/issues, and physician concerns/issues
Professional communication skills
Ability to coordinate the flow of the assigned room
Ability to interview potential team members
Ability to lead daily department huddles
Ability to maintain a high level of visibility and interaction with staff and physicians
Ability to facilitate changes on surgeon preference cards
Ability to ensure that equipment and supplies are available for assigned cases

Responsibilities

Clinical - Scrubs and circulates on cases as assigned.
Prepares for surgical cases in an efficient manner, anticipating needs of patient, surgeon, anesthesia and other operating room team members.
Maintains knowledge of equipment set-up and function.
Initiates and directs room clean up and turnover.
Initiates/maintains patient/family education and safety throughout the perioperative experience.
Provides a safe environment for patient and staff by implementing standards of aseptic technique and by controlling the physical and psychological aspects of that environment.
Collects and analyzes data and assesses patient in developing nursing diagnosis.
Serves as a resource and role model in clinical practice.
Leadership - Collaborates with management on: supply/budget issues, employee concerns/issues, and physician concerns/issues.
Communicates professionally at all times with staff, physicians and other departments for the following: scheduling, emergency situations, supplies/budget issues, conflict resolution, encouraging team support, and scheduling meal/break times.
Coordinates the flow of the assigned room.
Coordinates schedule with manager
Interview potential team members, as needed.
