About The Position

The Mail Sorter Lead will serve as the first point of contact on the floor for sorters, providing direction and answering operational questions during the shift. This role involves assigning work areas and tasks to sorters at the start of the shift and adjusting coverage as volume shifts throughout the day. The lead will monitor sort accuracy and throughput, correct errors in real-time, and coach sorters on proper procedures. Responsibilities also include conducting or assisting with on-the-job training for new hires, including hazmat six-sided inspection and bypass can requirements. The lead will coordinate with the General Manager on scheduling monthly Safety Meetings, posting meeting notices, and taking minutes. They will report daily staffing gaps, attendance issues, and safety concerns to the Operations Manager/General Manager, and ensure shift-level compliance with USPS, hazmat, and company policy requirements. Additional job duties include loading, unloading, and delivery of truck and aircraft containers. This role requires a strong work ethic and the ability to perform physical labor over several hours, including the repetitive lifting of items up to 70 lbs. Tasks involve stacking packages, mail bags, and mail totes into floor-level containers, pulling rolling equipment across the warehouse floor, and loading/unloading mail from rolling equipment and floor-level containers. The position requires standing, some bending, and occasional step ladder use. Most items weigh under 20 lbs, but the ability to occasionally lift up to 70 lbs is necessary. This includes unloading and loading trailers with rolling equipment.

Requirements

  • Ability to receive clearance from USPIS (postal inspection service)
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be flexible to work variable shifts, weekends
  • Specific shifts to be determined by administrative staff due to operational needs
  • Must be able to work extended hours on short notice during irregular operation
  • Male applicants must be registered on the Selective Service System (https://www.sss.gov/Home/registration) and provide the number
  • Ability to work in inclement weather
