About The Position

Sorts, processes, and distributes incoming, interdepartmental, and outgoing mail and/or other items. Work is performed utilizing a teamwork approach in this high volume, fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • 0-1 years related work experience required.
  • Basic familiarity with computers. Ability to navigate at a basic level within web-based applications.

Responsibilities

  • Sorts, processes, collects and distributes mail arriving from post office or from internal areas is sorted into appropriate mailboxes. Bands and prepares mail for delivery upon completion of sort process. Makes a regularly scheduled round throughout the assigned area(s) picking up out going mail and delivering previously sorted mail.
  • Processes outgoing mail through the postage meter and records postage charging information by Department, either manually in mailroom book or in automated system at meter. Assures mail is weighed, zoned and postage is applied prior to sending it to the post office or processing facility. Reports any unusual or inappropriate use of the postage meter.
  • Greets, directs and gives non-clinical factual information to patients, physicians and Hospital personnel. Builds positive working relationships with key people in assigned areas. Demonstrates a positive helpful demeanor and makes appropriate referral if unable to provide requested information or fill the need.
  • Assures Federal Express, Airborne, or other packages are handled effectively and in a timely manner. Upon request, furnishes various hospital departments with information regarding postage information and rates.
  • Answers the telephone and utilizes effective communication skills for telephone contacts. Demonstrates knowledge of hospital routines, activities, locations, etc. Learns and utilizes effective communication skills for person-to-person contacts.
  • Maintains department files of patient room assignments, home addresses, etc. Forwards mail to discharged patients. Assures that mailboxes are updated as notification of changes are received. Receives incoming telegrams and packages and records all items as per departmental procedure.
