About The Position

The most powerful AI features are only as good as the data behind them. As the Mail Data Foundations Engineering Manager, you will lead the team that ensures Apple's intelligence features have access to the freshest, most complete, and most reliable data from every email provider in the world. From Google and Yahoo to Microsoft Exchange powering enterprise workflows across Mail, Calendar, Reminders, Notes, and Contacts — your team is the critical foundation that makes intelligence possible. Based in San Diego, you will also help shape and grow Apple's engineering presence at this site, building strong connections to our cross-functional teams in Cupertino. Requirements

  • BS in Computer Science or equivalent
  • Strong software engineering skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with email and communication protocols (e.g., IMAP, SMTP, EWS, CardDAV, CalDAV)
  • Strong grasp of client/server communication patterns
  • Experience working directly with external partners or third-party services, including negotiating technical integrations and navigating provider-specific constraints
  • Strong testing philosophy
  • Experience leading or closely collaborating with engineers in test and triage roles, with an emphasis on reliability and data integrity
  • Energized by site-level leadership and the opportunity to help build and scale an engineering location

Responsibilities

  • Lead the team responsible for Apple's connectivity to the world's email providers, as well as Calendar, Reminders, Notes, and Contacts for our Microsoft enterprise customers.
  • Ensure data integrity across all providers, enabling the intelligence features that define the modern Mail experience.
  • Serve as a key site leader for Apple's Mail engineering presence in San Diego.
  • Help shape and grow Apple's engineering presence at this site, building strong connections to our cross-functional teams in Cupertino.
  • Hire and mentor a diverse team of engineers.
  • Build an inclusive team culture where everyone can be heard and the best ideas are pursued.
  • Act as an arbitrator for tough technical debates.
  • Take an Apple-wide perspective in making decisions.
