About The Position

This role performs tasks associated with mail processing and distribution, sorting and collating incoming mail, dispatching outgoing mail, and placing mail in proper buckets/tubs for dissemination. It also involves receiving outgoing mail, applying correct postage, and maintaining postage records. Additional responsibilities may include x-ray scanning of mail and packages for security, following HAZMAT procedures, processing unidentifiable and machinable mail, and performing other job-related duties as assigned. Requirements

  • High School Diploma, or General Educational Development (GED) required.
  • One-year experience in work related field preferred.
  • Ability to perform routine tasks on special class mail as well as routine and repetitive tasks for long periods with minimum supervision.
  • Must be able to stand, reach, and walk for long periods of time.
  • Ability to make minor decisions regarding mail issues/questions.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Good reading and writing skills.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers, multiply, and divide with 10's and 100's.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Basic ability to operate a computer using Microsoft Office software and accountable mail tracking system.
  • Basic typing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Performs tasks associated with mail processing and distribution.
  • Sorts and collates incoming mail for distribution and dispatches outgoing mail.
  • Places mail in proper buckets/tubs for dissemination.
  • Receives outgoing mail and applies correct postage.
  • Maintains postage records and updates filing, inventory, mailing and database systems.
  • Perform x-ray scan using an x-ray machine to scan all mail and packages for security of customers if required by contract.
  • If required at site, pull bags to be sent at the end of the day.
  • Follow HAZMAT procedures for handling potentially hazardous mail.
  • Process unidentifiable mail by opening and reading mail so appropriate distribution can be completed.
  • Process machinable mail (folding, inserting, sealing, and opening) as needed.
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned.
