About The Position

The Magnetics Assembler is responsible for the precision winding and assembly of magnetic components, such as transformers and inductors, for the defense and aerospace industry. With over 40 years of experience in the defense industry, HDL Research Lab's mission is to design and build high quality custom power electronics for military and aerospace applications. Our products operate everywhere—from submarines deep within the ocean to missiles in flight around the world. Requirements

  • US Citizenship or Permanent Resident status.
  • Ability to maintain industry certifications - IPC-J-STD-001, IPC-J-STD-001 SPACE, and IPC-610.
  • Ability to read and comprehend written and verbal instructions, drawings, schematics, production aides, quality documents, etc.
  • Ability to demonstrate visual acuity.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to handle small and/or sensitive parts.
  • Excellent time management with the ability to multitask and prioritize work in a fast-paced, schedule-driven environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be proficient with general computer use.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in electronic assembly or general manufacturing.
  • Previous experience working with fine-gauge magnet wire.

Responsibilities

  • Perform precision winding of transformers, inductors, and other magnetic components using manual and automated coil winding equipment in accordance with production drawings and work instructions.
  • Prepare and handle fine-gauge magnet wire, insulation materials, tapes, and bobbins, while maintaining proper handling techniques to prevent damage.
  • Apply insulation systems including tapes, varnish, and epoxy according to design and manufacturing specifications.
  • Use tools such as pliers, wire cutters, screwdrivers, etc.
  • Self-check work before passing forward to ensure products and parts meet quality requirements.
  • Assist with rework or repairs on defective components that are rejected by inspection or test personnel.
  • Log in and out of production jobs for accurate job tracking.
  • Recommend process changes where practical.
  • Wear personal protective equipment in accordance with training guidelines.
  • Perform other jobs as assigned.
